Freshman (2016-17)
Nebraska’s first women’s golf recruit from Scotland, Claire Robertson is the sixth European golfer to join the Nebraska program since 1998.
Robertson earned time in the Husker lineup as a true freshman, competing in Nebraska's first 11 rounds to open the fall. She played in eight of NU's 13 rounds inside the Husker lineup during the fall campaign.
She opened her collegiate career inside the Husker lineup at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., Sept. 12-13. She tied for 39th with a three-round score of 230 (76-81-73).
Robertson was back in the NU lineup for the East & West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich., Sept. 18-20. She finished 46th (81-79-160) at Michigan.
She competed as an individual outside the Husker lineup at Nebraska's Chip-N Club Invitational, Sept. 25-27. She tied for 31st in a 65-player field at Wilderness Ridge with a three-round total of 232 (87-75-70) that included a career-best two-under-par 70 in the final round.
Robertson returned to the Husker lineup at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo., Oct. 7-9. She settled for a three-round score of 244 (83-83-78) to finish 99th in a 102-player field in Colorado.
Robertson did not compete for the Huskers during the spring season until earning a lineup spot at the Hawkeye El Tigre in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, April 2-4. Robertson settled for a three-round total of 251 (87-83-81) in Mexico to finish 78th individually.
She also qualified as Nebraska's No. 6 golfer for the 2017 Big Ten Championships. Robertson finished 81st (91-85-89-265) in her first conference tournament appearance.
She finished the season with an 81.29 stroke average.
Off the course, Robertson earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2016-17. She was also a member of the 2017 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
“The thing that stands out the most in watching Claire compete is her ability to battle the whole round, whether things are going her way or not,” Nebraska Coach Krapfl said. “Claire brings experience competing internationally against the top players in Europe, while also representing her country. She has a well-rounded game, knows how to play in the wind and has shown the ability to shoot low numbers.”
High School/Amateur
Robertson was a member of Team Scotland at the Girls European Team Championships at Kaskada, Czech Republic, while also playing for the Scottish team at the Girls Home Internationals at Lanark in 2015. She represented Scotland at the 2015 Duke of York Young Champions tournament in Kent, England. She also advanced to the match play stages of the 2015 British Girls’ Open Amateur Championships in West Kilbride, Scotland.
Robertson was a member of Team Scotland at the Scottish Girls Under 16 Strokeplay Championships in Strathmore in both 2013 and 2014. She is a three-time Carnoustie Caledonia Golf Club Ladies Champion (2013, 2014, 2015) and she won the Alfred Dunhill Schools Championship played at St. Andrews in 2013. She won the North of Scotland Girls Championship at Boat of Garten in 2015, setting the course record with a five-under-par 67.
Personal
The daughter of Mark Robertson and April Robertson, Claire was born Feb. 6, 1998, in Dundee, Scotland. She has an older sister, Holly. Claire has not declared a major, but she did earn spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2016-17. She was a member of the 2017 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Robertson, who chose Nebraska over Chattanooga, said she expects Nebraska to give her the best opportunity for success on and off the course.
“I feel like Nebraska is going to give me the best possible chance of successfully pursuing both my golf and studies. Everyone at UNL has been extremely friendly, and the setup for student-athletes is amazing. I can’t wait to get started and begin my American college life.”
