Senior (2009-10)
A four-year fixture in Nebraska’s lineup, Grand Island native JC Stevenson closed a solid Husker career with her best individual season in 2009-10. Stevenson produced her best individual finish at the Big 12 Championships by tying for 15th (226) at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. It was Stevenson's 22nd top-20 finish of her career. She also produced seven top-10 finishes, including one tournament title (2007 Edwin Watts/Palmetto).
Stevenson closed her Husker career with the fourth-best stroke average in school history (77.47), while her 136 career rounds ranked fifth in the NU record book. Her 75.84 stroke average as a senior was the fifth-best in school history, while ranking fourth among all seniors at Nebraska. Stevenson also owns Nebraska's best-ever regional score with a 220 (tied for 14th) at the 2008 NCAA Central Regional in Austin, Texas.
As a senior, Stevenson notched seven top-20 showings, including three straight to close her career. She posted her best tournament finish of the season by tying for fifth (73-71-72-216) on a par-70 layout at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, April 10-11. She added a tie for 14th (230) at the BYU at Entrada Classic, March 22-23.
She opened the season with three consecutive top-20 finishes, including an eighth-place effort with a four-over-par 220 at Nebraska's own Chip-N Club Invitational, Sept. 14-15. She added back-to-back ties for 18th at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate (231) and the Heather Farr Memorial (227).
Her other top-20 performance came with a tie for 20th (223) at the UNLV Spring Invitational, March 8-10.
A three-time NGCA Scholastic All-American, Stevenson was also a three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection and an eight-time Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll member.
Junior (2008-09)
Stevenson continued to be a rock in Nebraska's lineup as a junior in 2008-09. She produced a stellar fall campaign before starting slow during the spring season. She finished the year strong by tying for 20th with a 236 at the Big 12 Championships in Lubbock, Texas. Stevenson's finish, which included a pair of five-over-par 78's in the final two rounds, marked her best career Big 12 finish in her third trip to the conference tournament.
Stevenson started her junior season strong, notching a team-best 75.87 stroke average over 15 rounds during the fall. She opened the year with a three-round total of 220 (76-73-71) to finish fifth at the Chip-N Club Invitational. With Stevenson leading the charge, the Huskers claimed the tournament title. The next time out, Stevenson helped the Huskers tie for first at the end of regulation with a 54-hole score of 234 (82-79-73) in a tie for 14th at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational.
Stevenson was slow out of the gate during spring campaign tying for 38th (236) at the Aztec Spring Invitational before tying for 87th (238) at the 43-team Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic. She bounced back with two strong rounds of 72 and 73 to close the UNLV Spring Invitational in a tie for 51st (232).
She produced her best tournament score of the spring season with a 228 to tie for 44th at the Mountain View Collegiate, March 28-29. She added a tie for 48th (240) at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, April 18-19, before tying for 20th at the Big 12 Championships.
She posted back-to-back top-10 finishes with a tie for seventh (73-77-77-227) at the McHaney/Morehead Invitational and a tie for sixth (76-73-73-221) at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. She closed the fall with a tie for 24th (84-75-76-235).
Along with her success on the course, Stevenson is also a standout in the classroom. She is a three-time NGCA Scholastic All-American (2007, 2008, 2009) and is a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection (2008, 2009). She also earned spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters of 2008-09.
Sophomore (2007-08)
Stevenson elevated her game as a sophomore, posting eight top-20 finishes, including a Nebraska NCAA Regional record score of 220 to tie for 14th at the 2008 NCAA Central Regional. Stevenson eclipsed 2003 NCAA All-American Sarah Sasse’s 222 at the 2003 Central Regional on Lincoln’s Firethorn Golf Course.
Stevenson’s breakout campaign included her first career tournament title at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Invite (Oct. 29-30). She scorched the Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C., for a career-low 216 (even par). Her effort included a pair of career-best 70s in the second and third rounds.
Her effort in South Carolina followed a seventh-place finish with a 241 to help NU to a team title at the 2007 Bronco Invite in Kuna, Idaho. She added a tie for 12th (227) at the Central District Invite in February.
Stevenson tied for 13th with a 222 at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 29-30, before tying for 18th to help NU to a runner-up team finish at the BYU Dixie Classic, April 1-2. Stevenson closed the regular season by tying for 16th at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invite, April 17-19, before adding a tie for 33rd at the Big 12 Championships in Stillwater, Okla., April 25-27.
Stevenson opened the year by tying for 18th (230) at NU’s Chip-N Club Invite, and added a tie for 48th at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, before tying for 28th at the rain-shortened Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invite.
Off the course, Stevenson captured NGCA Scholastic All-America honors for the second time, while adding first-team academic All-Big 12 accolades.
Freshman (2006-07)
Stevenson enjoyed a solid first season as a contributor in the Husker lineup. She posted a pair of top-20 finishes among her six top-35 individual efforts.
She played in all 35 rounds for NU and ranked fourth on the team with a 78.91 stroke average. She tied for 80th (242) to help NU to a 15th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional in St. George, Utah, after contributing to the Huskers’ fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas. Stevenson finished 56th (250) in her first Big 12 Tournament appearance and aided NU’s fourth-place team finish.
Stevenson closed the regular season with her best tournament score (222) to tie for 32nd at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 24-25. She opened with a pair of season-low 72s, before closing the tournament with a 78. She added a 72 in the final round of the season-opening Badger Invite to tie for 12th (234).
She added a 13th-place finish (227) to help NU to a tournament title at the Bronco Invite. She tied for 31st (237) at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic and added a tie for 27th (244) at the Chip-N Club Invite in September.
Stevenson also earned NGCA Scholastic All-America honors for the first time.
High School/Amateur
One of the most accomplished amateur players in Nebraska history, Stevenson captured her second NWAGA State Stroke Play title in 2009, and was the runner-up at the 2009 NWAGA State Match Play Championships in Kearney. Stevenson was named the 2007 Nebraska Women’s Amateur of the Year. She was the 2007 Nebraska Women’s Eastern Champion, the Match Play runner-up and the Western Stroke Play runner-up. She won her first Nebraska Women’s Stroke Play title in 2006 and was a Match Play semifinalist. Also in 2006, Stevenson was named the Nebraska Girls Junior Player of the Year for the second straight season, after claiming the Match Play title. She was also selected as a Nebraska Girls All-Star in both 2005 and 2006.
Stevenson finished in the top four at the Class A state tournament in each of her final three years at Grand Island High School, including a second-place showing as a senior to help the Islanders to a state runner-up finish in 2005.
She took third at the state championships as a junior in 2004, when she helped the Islanders and Coach Kevin Bartlett to the Class A team title. She earned a fourth-place finish at state as a sophomore in 2003. She began her high school career by finishing 24th at state in 2002.
In addition to her success on the course, Stevenson was the co-valedictorian at Grand Island High School and participated in National Honor Society. She was also a member of the honor roll.
Personal
The daughter of C.L. and the late Jeanette Stevenson, JC (J Celeste) was born in Grand Island, Neb., on Dec. 21, 1987. JC owns a 3.712 GPA as an elementary education at Nebraska. She is a three-time NGCA Scholastic All-American (2007, 2008, 2009) and a three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 pick (2008, 2009, 2010). She is an eight-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
