Senior (1991-92)
One of the most decorated players on the course and in the classroom in Nebraska women's golf history, Joanne Brooks owns the distinction of being Nebraska's first-ever NCAA All-American.
The native of Tauranga, New Zealand also closed her career as Nebraska's second three-time All-Big Eight performer, earning conference honors in 1989, 1990 and 1991. She also joined teammate Ann Guiberson as Nebraska's first-ever three-time NGCA Scholastic All-Americans and was a three-time academic All-Big Eight performer.
Following her All-American sophomore season, Brooks won the Edith Munson Award, which is given annually to the nation's top student-athlete in women's collegiate golf. Only players who earned All-America honors on the course and Scholastic All-America honors from the NGCA are eligible for the award. She was also the president of Nebraska's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
In 2000, Brooks was recognized during the Nebraska Athletic Department's Silver Anniversary Celebration of Women's Athletics, as one of the Huskers' 25 Women of Distinction across all sports.
Junior (1990-91)
Brooks captured her third consecutive All-Big Eight award while helping the Huskers to a third-place team finish at the conference tournament. She posted a 77.7 stroke average for the Huskers over 27 competitive rounds. She managed a season-best round of 73, while adding a season-best tournament score of 226. She finished among the top 10 in seven of NU's nine tournaments on the year, increasing her career total to 21 top-10 finishes through her first three seasons.
She also earned her second straight NGCA Scholastic All-America award and her second academic All-Big Eight honor for her efforts in the classroom.
Sophomore (1989-90)
Brooks produced arguably the finest season in Nebraska women's golf history by becoming the first Husker to capture All-America honors. At the 1990 NCAA Championships, Brooks fired rounds of 75-81-79-79 to finish with a four-round total of 314 on the Arthur Hills Golf Course at Hilton Head, S.C. She was named the Edith Munson Award winner as the nation's top female student-athlete in women's golf. She was ranked as high as No. 33 nationally and finished in the top 10 at eight of 13 events during the season.
Over 36 rounds, she posted a 77.5 stroke average, including a season-best round of 72 and a season-best tournament score of 221. She captured three individual tournament titles at the 1990 All-College Kickoff, the 1990 Michigan State Spartan Invitational and the 1990 Mizzou Invitational. She also captured the second All-Big Eight award of her career.
Off the course, Brooks earned NGCA Scholastic All-America honors and was an academic All-Big Eight selection.
Freshman (1988-89)
One of the best freshmen in the Big Eight, Brooks claimed all-conference honors for the first time in her career while helping the Huskers to a fourth-place finish at the Big Eight Championships. Over 35 rounds on the season, she posted a 78.5 stroke average with a season-best round of 72. She added a season-best tournament total of 225.
She captured individual tournament titles at the 1989 Iowa State Cyclone Classic and the 1989 Northern Illinois Invitational. She was ranked as high as 94th nationally during the season.
Personal
The daughter of Claude and Pauline Brooks, Joanne was born Dec. 23, 1969. Brooks earned her bachelor's degree in nutrition management from Nebraska and was a three-time NGCA Scholastic All-American and a three-time academic All-Big Eight selection. She also served as the NU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President during her time 1991-92 academic year.
