Senior (1981-82)
After earning varsity letters in her first three seasons at Nebraska, Mary Sue Hergert was listed on the 1981-82 NU roster but did not compete for the Huskers. She closed her career as a three-time Big Eight Championships competitor, including a 19th-place finish in 1980.

For her career, Hergert finished with an 86.02 stroke average over 61 rounds.

Junior (1980-81)
Hergert continued her progression in the heart of the Husker lineup, producing a career-best 84.20 stroke average over 20 rounds. She matched her career best with a 79 in the second round at the AIAW Region VI Championships, while posting a season-best 253 at the Lamar Invitational late in the spring season. She produced a 170 at Iowa and a 164 at Iowa State, before notching a 162 at the Region VI Tournament. She managed a 264 at the Rayburn Country Classic early in the spring season prior to her effort at Lamar.

She capped her third season at Nebraska with a 259 to finish 26th at the Big Eight Championships in Lawrence, Kan.

Sophomore (1979-80)
Hergert displayed major improvement in her second season in the Nebraska lineup. The Lincoln native shaved 3.28 strokes off her season average from her freshman campaign, finishing with an 85.54 stroke average over 24 rounds. She opened the season with a career-best 79 in the first round of the Susie Maxwell Berning All-College Kickoff in Oklahoma, on her way to a career-best 248 three-round tournament score.

Hergert matched her career best with a 79 in the second round at the Lamar Invitational, where she managed a 252 over three rounds. She fired a solid 162 in two rounds at the Iowa Invitational, before matching her career-best with a 248 at the Big Eight Championships in Lawrence, Kan. Hergert's three-round total was good for 19th individually, trailing only Jan Stanard (11th) and Robin Scherer (16th) among the Huskers. Hergert helped NU to a fifth-place team finish.

Hergert was one of four Huskers, joining Stanard, Scherer and Carin Roberts to compete in all 24 rounds during the season.

Freshman (1978-79)
Hergert provided immediate contributions to Nebraska's lineup as a freshman. She competed in 17 rounds and produced an 88.82 stroke average. She fired a season-best 83 in the second round of the AIAW Region VI Championships in Iowa City to finish with a two-round total of 170, tying for NU's No. 2 finish at the event.

She shot an 88 in one round at the Omaha Invitational to open her career, before notching a 180 in two rounds at Iowa State. Following her effort at the AIAW Tournament, she was NU's No. 2 finisher at the Kansas Invite with a 176. She managed a 181 in Missouri to close the fall campaign, before opening the spring with a 184 in a tie for 10th individually at the Wichita State Shocker Invitational. Hergert shot an 89 in one round at the Kansas Invite, before producing her season-best 268 in three rounds at the Big Eight Championships in Stillwater, Okla. Hergert was NU's No. 4 finisher at the Big Eight Tournament, while the Huskers finished fourth as a team.
