Senior (2023-24)
Lindsey Thiele (pronounced TEEL) was a regular in Nebraska's lineup throughout the spring. The senior from Wahoo, Neb., has played well this spring, tying for seventh at 143 (70-73) in the rain-shortened Spartan Sun Coast Invitational in Sarasota, Fla. (Feb. 18-19). Thiele opened the tournament with a season-best 70 (-2) in challenging scoring conditions on the 6,191-yard layout at the Palm Aire Country Club to sit in a tie for the lead after 18 holes. It was her first top-10 finish of the season and third of her career.
Thiele followed with a season-best 212 (-4) at the Westbrook Spring Invitational that included back-to-back season-best-tying rounds of 70 (-2) in the second and third rounds on the par-72, 6,248-yard layout at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz. She tied for 32nd and help the Huskers to a fifth-place team finish in a strong 14-team field.
Following a tie for 67th with a 229 (80-75-74) at the Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island, S.C. (March 11-12), Thiele bounced back with her second top-20 finish of the spring by tying for 20th with a one-over-par 217 (70-76-71) at the Florida State Match Up in Tallahassee (March 15-16). It marked Thiele's seventh top-20 finish of her career.
Thiele was Nebraska's top finisher at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational (April 13-14), taking 28th with a three-round total of 227 (+11), managing rounds of 74, 78 and 75 on a challenging 6,319-yard, par-72 layout at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
She closed her season with a tie for 55th with a 229 (+13) at the Big Ten Championship. Thiele bounced back from an opening-round 80 with rounds of 73 and 76 at the Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md., to produce Nebraska's No. 4 individual finish.
Thiele opened her senior season by tying for 52nd with a 219 (+3) at the Sam Golden Invitational (Sept. 11-12). Competing as an individual outside Nebraska's five-player lineup, she carded rounds of 76-71-72 on the par-72, 6,413-yard layout at the Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas.
She made her first lineup appearance of the season at the UCF Challenge (Feb. 3-5) to open the spring. She tied for 72nd individually with a 227 (+11) in a loaded 96-player field at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando.
Thiele finished third among the Huskers with a 74.04 stroke average over 23 rounds in 2023-24. She produced five rounds better than par during the spring.
As a junior in 2022-23, Thiele was an intregal part of Nebraska’s success. She produced a career-best 74.88 stroke average, which ranked fourth among the Huskers, while competing in all 38.5 rounds. She helped the Big Red claim an NCAA Central Regional berth while slashing two strokes per round off her average from her sophomore campaign.
Thiele is also a star in the classroom as a three-time WGCA Scholastic All-American and a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection in 2023. She is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and also one of Nebraska’s most active student-athletes in community service across all sports.
During the summer of 2023, Thiele participated in the Nebraska Athletics No Filter Service Trip to Panama, before winning the Nebraska Women’s Match Play Championship.
Thiele followed in the footsteps of her older sisters, Haley (2015-20) and Hannah (2018-21), who were also letterwinners and WGCA Scholastic All-Americans at Nebraska.
Junior (2022-23)
Thiele helped Nebraska to its second NCAA Regional appearance in the past three seasons by competing in all 38.5 rounds for the Huskers in 2022-23. The junior from Wahoo produced Nebraska’s No. 4 stroke average on the season with a career-best 74.88 - a two-stroke improvement per round from 2021-22 (76.89). Her 74.88 stroke average also ranked No. 2 among juniors in Nebraska history, trailing only All-American and Big Ten Champion Kate Smith’s 73.52 in 2018-19.
Thiele was Nebraska’s No. 2 finisher at the 2023 Big Ten Championship, tying for 34th at 228 (74-75-78) on the par-71, 6,045-yard layout at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pa. She capped her third season as a Husker by tying for 47th at the NCAA Raleigh Regional with a 230 (76-76-78) on the par-72, 6,324-yard layout at the Lonnie Poole Golf Club.
She opened her third season as a Husker with a career-best 209 (-7) to notch her second career top-10 finish at the Green Wave Classic in New Orleans (Sept. 12-13). Thiele’s strong performance on the 6,158-yard layout of the Bayou Oaks South Course included three rounds better than par, including a career-best 69 (-3) in the first round. Thiele, who added back-to-back rounds of 70 to close the tournament, helped the Huskers to the best team score in school history (835, -29) and a runner-up team finish in New Orleans.
She continued her solid play by tying for 31st in a 75-player field to help Nebraska to the tournament title at the Badger Invitational (Sept. 18-20). Thiele put together strong rounds of 73, 75 and 75 to close at 223 on the 6,248-yard layout at the University Ridge Golf Course in Wisconsin.
Thiele added a tie for 30th (226) in another 75-player event to help the Huskers to a runner-up team finish at the Dale McNamara Invitational (Oct. 10-11). Thiele’s final-round 72 (E) capped a tournament-best 280 (-8) for the Huskers, who fell just one stroke short of the team title.
She contributed a fourth consecutive top-35 finish by tying for 26th (195) at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational (Oct. 17-18). In challenging weather and scoring conditions that eventually led to the shortening of the tournament to 27 holes, Thiele put together one of Nebraska’s best rounds with a 74 in the second round.
Thiele closed the fall with tie for 37th (220) at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. (Oct. 31-Nov. 1). Her performance included an even-par 72 in the second round on the 6,162-yard layout at the Biltmore Golf Club.
She opened the spring with a three-round total of 225 (79-71-75) to tie for 51st at the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. (Feb. 6-7). Her performance included a second-round 71 (-1) that helped Nebraska earn a runner-up team finish, trailing only No. 19 Vanderbilt, in a 14-team field that featured 11 top-100 teams.
Thiele notched her second top-25 finish of 2022-23 by firing a 217 (+1) over three rounds to help Nebraska to the Westbrook Spring Invitational team title in Arizona (Feb. 26-27). Thiele fired a career-best-tying 69 (-3) in the second round between rounds of 74 in the first and third rounds. Thiele’s performance helped the Huskers finish at 843 (-21) to outclass a 14-team field that featured 12 top-100 teams including No. 24 Ohio State.
She contributed a tie for 41st in a 90-player field at the Briar’s Creek Invitational in South Carolina (March 13-14). Thiele covered the 54 holes on the par-72, 6,152-yard layout of The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek in 224 (73-75-76). She added a three-round score of 228 (71-81-76) at the Mountain View Collegiate (March 17-19) to finish 83rd in a loaded field in Tucson, Ariz.
Thiele collected her sixth top-35 finish of the season by tying for 31st at 222 (73-77-72) at The Bruzzy in Ardmore, Okla. (April 1-2). Her performance on the par-70, 5,976-yard layout at the Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club helped Nebraska to a pair of wins over top-40 teams (Houston, TCU) in a 15-team field that featured 14 top-100 foes.
She managed a tie for 75th with a 236 (80-77-79) at the Lady Buckeye Invitational (April 15-16).
Sophomore (2021-22)
Thiele unleashed the best performance of her collegiate career, sharing the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational individual title with teammate Nicole Hansen (Sept. 20-21). Thiele finished the 54-hole event with a season-best 219 (+3) that included her first two rounds better than par as a collegian. She opened the tournament with a season-best 70 (-2) before adding a 71 (-1) in the second round to head to the final round atop the leader board in the 62-player field. She managed a 78 in the final round on the par-72, 6,221-yard layout at Colbert Hills Golf Club.
With Thiele and Hansen leading the way, Nebraska’s four-player “B” lineup won the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower team title, becoming the first Husker team in 11 all-time trips to the tournament to come away with a trophy. The “B” team finished with a three-round total of 885, six strokes ahead of runner-up Sam Houston (891). Thiele and Hansen also shared Big Ten Co-Golfer-of-the-Week honors (Sept. 22).
Thiele capped a strong fall by showing continued improvement, tying for 21st with a four-over-par 222 (74-74-74) while playing as an individual outside Nebraska’s lineup at the White Sands Intercollegiate in the Bahamas (Oct. 22-24). It marked her second top-25 finish of the fall and allowed her to finish with a 76.80 stroke average over 15 rounds - a 3.33 strokes per round improvement compared to spring 2021.
Following her tournament title at Kansas State, Thiele played out of the top spot in NU’s lineup at The Molly Collegiate in Seaside, Calif. (Sept. 27-28). She closed as Nebraska’s No. 4 finisher with a three-round total of 240 (84-79-77) in a tie for 67th in an 83-player field at the Bayonet Golf Club.
She traveled with the Huskers to the Dale McNamara Invitational (Oct. 11-12), competing as an individual outside the Husker lineup. Thiele finished 59th with a three-round total of 234 that included solid and consistent rounds of 77, 79 and 78 on the 6,200-yard layout at The Golf Club of Oklahoma in Broken Arrow.
Thiele opened her second season at Nebraska by earning a lineup spot at the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 13-14). She was NU’s No. 4 finisher at the 16-team event that included 12 teams that advanced to 2021 NCAA Regional play. She closed with a 54-hole score of 237 that included a second-round 77 (+6) on the par-71, 6,232-yard layout of the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor. She finished 76th individually in the 90-player field.
She opened the spring season by going 0-1 at the Big Ten Match Play (Jan. 31-Feb. 1). Thiele earned her first lineup spot of the spring and tied for third among the Huskers with a 232 (76-76-80) to tie for 70th overall at the Briar’s Creek Invitational in John’s Island, S.C. (March 14-15).
Freshman (2020-21)
Thiele produced the best tournament performance of her young career at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate (March 14-16). She notched a season-best tie for 23rd with a then-season-best three-round total of 229 (74-83-72) to help Nebraska to its first team tournament title since the spring of 2019. Her final-round 72 was a season best.
Thiele opened her competitive career in the Husker lineup as Nebraska’s No. 2 individual finisher at the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas (Feb. 1-2). Thiele tied for 43rd individually in a talent-rich field with a three-round total of 232 (76-82-74).
She returned to the Husker lineup in the second tournament of the spring at the Bruin Wave Invitational in Somis, Calif. In extremely challenging scoring conditions, Thiele tied for 67th in an 82-golfer field with a 252.
Thiele managed a 248 (85-78-85) at the Indiana Spring Invitational (April 17-18) to tie for 94th individually, before participating as Nebraska’s No. 6 golfer in the six-count-four format at the 2021 Big Ten Championship. Thiele tied for 74th individually with a three-round total of 241 (81-79-81), as Nebraska tied for second to produce its best finish at a conference tournament since 1984 (2nd, Big Eight).
She closed her first collegiate season with an 80.13 stroke average over 15 spring rounds.
Before Nebraska
Thiele produced a solid summer that included a runner-up finish at the 2020 Nebraska Women’s Amateur at the Country Club of Lincoln in early August. Thiele finished the three-round tournament at 215 (71-73-71, -1). The tournament field included Huskers Kirsten Baete, Nicole Hansen, Noor Ahmed, Jessica Haraden, Hannah Thiele and Megan Whittaker, who all finished in the top 12.
A strong all-around athlete, Thiele finished sixth individually at the 2019 Class B Boys State Golf Championship. She helped the Bishop Neumann boys team to a Class B state tournament appearance as a junior. Her eighth-place district finish helped Neumann finish second at districts to qualify for state. As a sophomore in the spring of 2018, Thiele was a Class C boys individual district champion while helping Bishop Neumann to a district runner-up finish and an appearance at the state tournament.
As a junior golfer, Thiele qualified for the 2019 PGA Girls Junior National Tournament at Keney Park Golf Club in Hartford, Conn. She won the 2019 Nebraska Girls Junior PGA Championship at Indian Trails Country Club in Beemer and the 2019 Hale Irwin AJGA Preview at Walnut Creek in Westminster, Colo. She was also the runner-up at the 2019 John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. Thiele also placed third at the 2019 USGA Nebraska Junior Girls Qualifier at Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg.
Before high school, Thiele qualified for the 2016 Optimist International Golf Tournament at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., by winning the Nebraska Girls Junior Optimist Qualifier. As a seventh grader, she was the 2015 Girls Junior PGA Champion (Ages 13-15).
Thiele was also an outstanding basketball and volleyball player at Bishop Neumann. As a junior in basketball in 2019, Thiele earned a spot on the Class C1 All-Tournament team by leading Neumann to the Class C1 state title. She earned second-team Class C1 all-state honors from the Lincoln Journal Star. She was an honorable-mention all-state selection in basketball as a freshman, sophomore and senior. Thiele helped Bishop Neumann to a runner-up finish at state in 2018, after the team finished third at state her freshman season. Thiele was also honorable-mention Class C1 in volleyball as a freshman, sophomore and junior, and helped the Cavaliers to the state tournament in 2019.
A standout in the classroom, Thiele carried a 4.0 GPA and was the student body president and a class president for three years at Bishop Neumann. She was a four-year member of the student council and was involved in many different clubs and volunteer activities.
Personal
The daughter of Kevin and Lisa Thiele, Lindsey has two younger sisters, Lauren and Brooke, and two older sisters, Haley and Hannah. A psychology major, Lindsey is a three-time WGCA Scholastic All-American. A two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Thiele was a 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District VII choice. She is a seven-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
Thiele participated in the Nebraska Athletics No Filter Service Trip to Panama in May of 2023. She also earned a prestigious Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award in 2022. She is a three-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Lindsey chose Nebraska over Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Northern Illinois, Evansville and Wyoming.
