Mackenzi Steele in her first season as a volunteer coach for the Nebraska softball team in 2022. Steele spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant for the Huskers. She assists the coaches in a variety of ways at practice and on game days.
A pitcher, Steele spent three seasons with the Howard softball program (2017-19). As a junior in 2018, Steele played in 35 games, which included 24 starts. She pitched a team-high 156.1 innings and led the Bison with 108 strikeouts. As a senior, Steele made 38 appearances and 25 starts. She pitched 162.2 innings and had 105 strikeouts. Steel was a two-time member of the MEAC Softball All-Academic Team and the MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team.
A native of Winchester, Va., Steele also spend one season at Daytona State (2016) and one season at Appalachian State (2015).
