2005: Season Outlook
Kira Boerkircher (pronounced KEAR-uh BORE-kir-cher) is poised for the most playing time of her career in her final season as a Husker.
After appearing in 21 games - including one start - as a junior, Boerkircher will compete for a starting role in 2005 in either right field or as the designated player. Regardless of whether or not she wins a starting spot, Boekircher will provide much-needed depth as one of only three returning outfielders for Nebraska this season.
The Cozad, Neb., native set career highs for games played (21) and runs scored (11) last season and has put in a tremendous amount of work in preparation for her senior year, according to Coach Rhonda Revelle.
Her work ethic and experience should translate into a career year for Boerkircher, who is also expected to emerge as a team leader.

2002: Freshman Season
Boerkircker played in nine games and earned the starting nod in one as a freshman in 2002 ... hit .286 on the season (2-for-7) with two runs scored, three walks and a stolen base ...was productive as a pinch hitter against Southwest Missouri State April 1, going 1-for-1 with a run scored ... also competed as a pinch-hitter against Missouri-Kansas City April 3, producing an RBI single.
High School
One of the top prep players in Nebraska in recent years, Boerkircher earned numerous honors and awards during her junior and senior seasons while competing for Cozad High School and coaches Jared Hardin and Lee Gillen ... earned Lincoln Journal Star Second-Team Super-State and first-team Class B honors ... earned honorable-mention all-state honors from the Omaha World-Herald ... led the Haymakers to a runner-up finish in the Nebraska Class B state championships ... played center field for Coach Gail Wicks and the ASA Belles in summer ball and was the MVP of the Mt. Rushmore Classic in South Dakota ... also earned four letters in track and two in basketball ... ran a leg on Cozad’s 400-meter relay team that qualified for the 2001 Nebraska state track championships ... graduated in the top 10 percent of her high school class ... won the Nebraska Young Artist, the CCSA Science and the National Student of English awards.
