2004: Season Outlook
Brittney Yolo (pronounced YOE-loe) will compete for the starting catcher position along with freshman Jamie Waldecker. Yolo, who came to Nebraska last year after two seasons at Palomar Junior College, has the early edge because she has had a year to build rapport with the pitchers, Coach Rhonda Revelle said.
Yolo played in 20 games in 2003, recording a slugging percentage of .323 while fielding her position flawlessly in 61 chances.
Yolo will also be an inspirational leader this season. She has an enormously positive impact on her teammates, according to Revelle.
2003: Junior Season
The Huskers' backup catcher, Yolo played in 20 games and started 10, including eight at catcher for starter Amber Burgess and two as designated player ... hit .500 with one RBI in the NCAA Tournament ... Nebraska's best off the bench, batted .258 (8-for-31) with two doubles and eight runs scored ... had two multiple-hit games - against Southern Mississippi Feb. 25 and against Drake in game one of a March 25 doubleheader with two hits in each game ... responsible for the game- winning run against the Bulldogs with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning ... went 1-for-3 with a double against Iowa State April 23.
Before Nebraska
Yolo spent two productive seasons at Palomar Junior College in San Marcos, Calif. ... helped lead Palomar to a 41-5 overall record and a 15-0 mark in the Pacific Coast Conference ... earned first-team All-Pacific Coast accolades ... ranked 14th in the league with a .373 batting average ... ranked among the PCC leaders in RBIs (third, 34) and doubles (tied for sixth, seven)...was seventh in conference games only with a .417 average ... earned first-team All-Southern California honors from the California Community College Softball Coaches Association ... as a freshman in 2000, saw action in 13 of Palomar’s 15 conference games ... helped Palomar to a 32-7 overall record and a 15-0 Pacific Coast mark ... ranked 16th in the conference with a .382 batting average in league games, striking out just once ... won four letters at Analy High School.
