Former Husker Tanner Lubach joined the Nebraska baseball staff in September 2018. He is in his first year as director of player personnel after spending the 2019 season as the team’s director of operations.
Lubach, who played at Nebraska from 2013 to 2015, spent two years in the Los Angeles Angels organization after being selected in the ninth round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Lubach played Rookie ball for the Orem Owls in 2015 and spent the entire 2016 season with the Class A Burlington Bees.
Lubach began the 2017 season in independent baseball, where he earned All-Star honors playing for the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League. He spent the second half of 2017 in the American Association, playing for the St. Paul Saints. In 2018, Lubach earned Frontier League All-Star honors for the second time during a stint with the Normal CornBelters.
At Nebraska, Lubach earned second-team All-Big Ten honors during his senior season in 2015. He hit .312 with 58 hits, 10 doubles, 26 RBIs, 31 runs scored and shared the team high in home runs (4) during his final year with the Huskers.
In 2014, Lubach started 43 games to help the Huskers to their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in six years, and first appearance under Head Coach Darin Erstad. Nebraska finished second in the Big Ten regular season and took runner-up honors at the Big Ten Tournament in both 2013 and 2014 when Lubach started the majority of Nebraska’s games.
In the classroom, Lubach collected Academic All-Big Ten recognition on two occasions and claimed Big Ten Distinguished Scholar status in 2015. A seven-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll member, Lubach earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nebraska in December 2016.
Lubach spent his freshman campaign at Hutchinson Community College in 2012, where he earned second-team NJCAA All-America accolades. He graduated from Lincoln Southwest High School in 2011.
