The Husker rifle team started their stretch of road games with a 4,730–4,675 win over No. 14 Ohio State.
For the second match in a row, Nebraska swept the top five spots, bringing them to a 2-0 record. Katlyn Sullivan led the pack with a 1,186 aggregate score. Maddy Moyer, with another strong performance, shot a 1,182. Alivia Perkins and Carley Seabrooke both shot a 1,179, and Hannah Gallagher finished out the top five with a 1,174, replacing Makenzie Larson in counting toward the team score.
“Our first road match left a lot to be improved for next weekend,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “Today we walked in lacking the confidence to run our fundamentals, and it hurt us in slings especially. It was great to see Maddy have a good performance again in smallbore, along with Katlyn, both shooting 590s to lead the way. In air rifle, Alivia had a standout day with her 599, and Katlyn had another strong showing at 596. Overall, today wasn’t our day, but it serves as a good road map to where we need to continue to grow and improve as the season continues.”
The Huskers also took the top five places in the smallbore, with a total score of 2351. Sullivan and Moyer both earned a 590, receiving first and second place for NU. Seabrooke placed third with a 587, and Gallagher shot a 584, earning fourth place. Perkins took the fifth spot with a 580. Grace Corbett placed ninth, finishing out the Husker smallbore lineup.
The Big Red rolled into the air rifle, placing four shooters in the top five. Perkins had a record-setting score of 599, which is the highest air rifle score by a junior in program history. She also broke her personal air rifle record and is now tied second all-time for program air rifle scores for all classes. Sullivan added to her strong air rifle scores, placing second with a 596. Moyer and Seabrooke both shot a 592, placing fourth and fifth repetitively. Gallagher (7th, 590) and Corbett (10th, 588) complete the Husker air rifle lineup.
Nebraska stays on the road next weekend, heading to Oxford on Saturday, Oct. 10, to take on both Memphis and Ole Miss, and then Sunday, Oct. 11, heading over to Tennessee to face Memphis. Matches will start at 8 a.m. (CT)both days.
