Nebraska Fires Past No. 3 Alaska Fairbanks

The No. 5 Nebraska rifle team beat No. 3 Alaska Fairbanks at home, 4,727-4,721. 

The Huskers were led by Katlyn Sullivan and Alivia Perkins. Sullivan scored a 1,188 and placed second, and Perkins placed third with a 1,184. Makenzie Larson placed fifth with a 1,178, marking a new personal best.  

“I’m proud of the way we worked this weekend,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “While the numbers are still a work in progress, we saw a lot of things transfer over from practice, improving the process we ran to get through two very close matches. It was great to see Alivia have a standout weekend in smallbore, along with Makenzie, who fired a new PR today. Katlyn also had an exceptional weekend in air rifle that was exciting to watch! Overall, the weekend was a great step in the right direction; we will take what we learned and continue building as we close out the fall season over the next few weeks.”

Perkins led the pack in the smallbore, shooting a 592. Sullivan took the third spot on the smallbore leaderboard with a 590. En route to her new personal best, Larson took fourth with a 589. Carley Seabrooke (sixth, 585), Maddy Moyer (ninth, 581), Hannah Gallagher (10th, 581), Grace Corbett (13th, 578), Kenly Downey (14th, 576) and Charlie Mick (19th, 572) rounded out the Big Red smallbore lineup.

In the air rifle, Sullivan placed third with a 598. This tied both her best score of the season (598 on Sept. 26) and the best score by a sophomore in the air rifle. Corbett took sixth, finishing with a 594. Moyer and Perkins followed right behind her, each shooting a 592, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.  The tiebreaker was determined by the number of inner tens shot by each athlete. Seabrooke (10th, 589), Mick (11th, 589), Larson (12th, 589), Gallagher (16th, 586) and Downey (19th, 575) wrapped up the air rifle for the Huskers. 

Nebraska will take a weekend off before heading to Statesboro to take on No. 6 Georgia Southern. The match will be on Nov. 8 at 7 a.m. (CT).
