The No. 2 Nebraska rifle team will finish out its season at the NCAA Championships at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio, this Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.
The Huskers are looking to finish out a strong championship season after taking first place at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships with a record-breaking score of 4,758, and dismantling Ohio State in the NCAA Qualifiers, 4,744-4,682, on Feb. 21.
Both days of competition are slated to begin at 8 a.m. (CT), with smallbore competition taking place on Friday and air rifle on Saturday. The championship field includes Kentucky, TCU, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Alaska-Fairbanks, Navy and Georgia Southern. NU has faced off against and defeated five of its seven opponents so far this season - Kentucky, TCU, Ole Miss, Alaska-Fairbanks and Navy.
“We’re excited to be heading to Columbus for NCAA Championships,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “This is the weekend we have had circled on our calendar and worked towards all year. The team has been working hard to prepare for the moment and I am excited to watch them go out and perform this weekend shoulder to shoulder with the nation's best.”
NU will have five athletes competing at the NCAA Championships in Emma Rhode, Carley Seabrooke, Katlyn Sullivan, Aliva Perkins and Maddy Moyer. The Big Red will make its first team appearance under Clark and 21st since becoming a varsity program in 1998.
Rhode led the team in average scores in all disciplines for the second year in a row, averaging scores of 591.23 in the smallbore, 597.75 in the air rifle, and 1,188.98 in aggregate. Rhode became the first athlete in school history to shoot a perfect score of 600 in the air rifle, which she did twice, on Oct. 25 at Army, and most recently on Feb. 21 at NCAA Qualifiers. Rhode also owns the highest single-match aggregate score on the team this season with her score of 1,194, which she also shot on Oct. 25 at Army.
Sullivan averaged marks of 588.71 in the smallbore, 597.15 in the air rifle, and 1,185.87 in the aggregate in her first year with the Huskers. Sullivan now holds the record for highest single-match air rifle score by a freshman with a score of 599, a mark that also began the season as an overall team record before Rhode shot a perfect score of 600. Her air rifle average is good enough to make her the freshman leader in season average, topping Tori Watts’ average of 594.08 from 2022-23.
Seabrooke posted averages of 594.14 in the air rifle and 1,184.37 in the aggregate. Her smallbore average of 590.23 breaks Moyer’s freshman smallbore average record of 584.07, which was set last year. She also owns the single-match freshman record for smallbore with her score of 593, a score that she shot three separate times over the 2025-26 season. Seabrooke has five first-place finishes this season, with one in the aggregate and four in the smallbore.
In Perkins’ sophomore season, she averaged a 588.58 in the smallbore, 592.67 in the air rifle, and a 1,181.25 in the aggregate. Her average in the smallbore is now the highest season average for a sophomore in school history, topping Cecilia Ossi’s average of 586.30, set in the 2021-22 season. Perkins’ high air rifle score of 598 also ties her with teammates Moyer and Grace Corbett for the sophomore single-match record in the air rifle.
Moyer has competed in every match so far this season and has posted averages of 586.42 in the smallbore, 593.15 in the air rifle and 1,179.57 in aggregate. Her air rifle score of 598, which she shot at the PRC Championships, ties her for the sophomore single-match record score, along with Perkins and Corbett.
The 2025-26 has seen almost a complete rewrite of the record books, as each of the top ten team aggregate and smallbore scores in program history were all shot this season. Eight of the top ten team air rifle scores have also come from this season. NU has shot program highs of 2,369 in the smallbore (vs. Kentucky, Mt. Aloysius and Norwich), 2,394 in the air rifle, and an aggregate score of 4,758, both shot at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships. The Huskers look to carry the momentum from this season into NCAA Championships.
