Huskers Shoot Air Rifle Record To Top No. 1 TCU

The No. 2 Nebraska rifle team defeated No. 1 TCU 4,747-4,738, on Saturday, Nov. 1. Today’s win marks the Huskers’ first victory over the Horned Frogs since 2014, when NU topped TCU 4,660-4,642 at the NCAA Championships.

Nebraska continues its streak of breaking records, as it shot a program-high score of 2,387 in the air rifle. This score breaks the previous record of 2,386, set on Sept. 27 against Ohio State.

“It was a great day on the range," Head Coach Richard Clark said. "Coming off the weekend we had at West Point makes it difficult to perform without having an expectation to chase. The team did a good job today staying true to who they are and setting all the outside noise aside and secured another great number on the road while competing along side a very talented TCU team. It was great to see consistency in our smallbore again this week. It was especially great to see the team close out the match with a new team record in air rifle with one of the best starts in the discipline we’ve had all year. Tomorrow is a new day and another opportunity for us to go out and continue to perform at an elite level.”

The Big Red placed two shooters in the top five overall. Senior Emma Rhode led the match with an aggregate score of 1,190, and freshman Katlyn Sullivan followed in second with a score of 1,189.

In the air rifle, the Huskers placed three shooters in the top five on their way to shooting a school-record 2,387. Rhode took first with a score of 599, followed by Sullivan and Carley Seabrooke in third and fourth respectively, both shooting scores of 598. The tiebreaker was determined by the number of 10-point shots by each athlete. Maddy Moyer (ninth, 594) and Grace Corbett (11th, 591) finished out the air rifle lineup for NU.

Nebraska grabbed three of the top five spots in the smallbore. Rhode and Sullivan led in first and second, both shooting scores of 591. Alivia Perkins took fifth place with a mark of 589. Moyer (seventh, 589), Seabrooke (ninth, 593), and Corbett (11th, 577) rounded out the smallbore lineup for the Big Red.

The Huskers will stay in Fort Worth, Texas for a match against Schreiner on Sunday, Nov. 2. Stay up to date with all things Nebraska Rifle by following social media channels (@HuskerRifle).
