Huskers Topple Cyclones

Ames, Iowa - Harnessing a total of 15 titles, the Nebraska swimming and diving team topped the Iowa State Cyclones 197-103 at the Beyer Pool in Ames, Iowa on Saturday morning. 

The 200 medley relay team as well as the 400 freestyle relay team grabbed top finishes in the events. A team of Consiglio, Riggott, Tanko and Dunaway impressively swam the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:44.73. The Big Red team powered by Tanko, Marchi, Miklos and Jorgenson added a 3:30.49 in the 400 free relay. 

Gena Jorgenson completed a trio of first-place finishes leading the swimming efforts. Jorgenson, the All-American from Aberdeen, S.D., reached first in the 200 free (51.47) as well as the 500 free (4:57.14). She later went on to a first-place finish in the 400 IM, notching a time of 4:26.95. 

Virginia Consiglio, the sophomore from Genova, Italy, competed in the 100 and 200 backstroke, where she clocked a time of 57.07 and 2:04.57, respectively, and collected a pair of first-place swims. Aurora Zanin, another swimmer hailing from Italy, clocked a top-time in the 200 butterfly (first, 2:04.98) and the 500 free (third, 5:09.03). 

Beatrix Tanko, the Hungarian swimmer, took first in the 100 butterfly (56.87) as well as the 50 free (24.03). True freshman Natalie Dunaway closely followed, clocking 24.40 for the event. 

Senior Co-captain, Giulia Marchi added a first-place finish in the 100 free (53.07) as well as second in the 200 free (53.63). Riley Miklos followed suit and collected a first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:22.53), second in the 100 free (53.71) and third in the 50 free (24.63). Fellow sophomore, Marissa Laurin snagged a top finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.46 in addition to a fourth-place swim in the 1,000 free (10:57.44). She later went on to add a second-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.81. 

Jazmyn Lunn added a duo of second-place swims herself in the 100 (57.93) and 200 fly (2:05.83). 

In the diving well, Abby Baxter dominated the three-meter board, recording a career-best score of 346.10 and a first-place finish. The junior from Coppell, Texas, added an impressive score on the one-meter board with a score of 318.95 and a first-place finish. Senior Kelsey Clairmont came in second on the three-meter with a total score of 308.45 and third on the one-meter (281.90). Frankie Webb, a senior from Cambridge, England, took second on the one-meter with a performance of 283.05. 

The Big Red will return to the Devaney Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. (CT) to face the Kansas Jayhawks.
