Waco, Texas - The Nebraska men’s tennis team (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten) fell to No. 24 Baylor (6-1, 0-0 Big 12), 0-7, on Saturday night. It was the second ranked matchup of the spring season for the Big Red, and despite five tie breaks, NU fell to the Bears for its second loss of the season.

In doubles play, NU sent out junior Anton Shepp and senior Nic Wiedenhorn at No. 1, junior Calvin Mueller and sophomore Lars Johann at No. 2, and senior Shunya Maruyama and sophomore Leo Linquet at No. 3. Linquet and Maruyama, previously 3-1 as a duo, were defeated first, on Court Three losing to BU’s Oskar Brostrom and Christopher Frantzen, 5-7. Shepp and Wiedenhorn rallied on Court One, but dropped their set tiebreak to Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz, 6(6)-7. With the doubles point secured for the Bears, Court Two left its match unfinished at 6-6, [3-3].

Down 0-1, the Huskers took on singles play with Mueller, Shepp, Johann, Maruyama, Wiedenhorn and senior Rudi Christiansen. In the No. 5 slot, Wiedenhorn could not match Baylor’s Luc Koenig, falling 6-1, 6-2. On Court Two, Shepp kept the first set close but was defeated by Velcz 5-7, 1-6. At No. 4, Maruyama had a slow start against Brostrom, losing 1-6. The senior rallied back for a close second set, but lost, 5-7, and BU took a third singles point to clinch the match. Johann was next to finish on Court Three, defeated by Devin Badenhorst 1-6, 6(1)-7. Christiansen had a close matchup in the No. 6 slot, taking his first set against Martin Breysach, 6-4, and dropping the second, 3-6. In the ten-point tie break, Breysach kept his momentum and toppled Christiansen 10 points to six. Last to finish was another close match on Court One, Mueller and #32 Paroulek. The pair went to a ten-point tie break after 4-6, 6-3, sets, and Mueller fell 7-10. Four Huskers took their first singles losses of the season. BU won the match 7-0.
