2024-25: Senior
In his fourth and final season with Nebraska, Lars Johann tallied a 16-9 singles record and went 17-8 in doubles. The senior opened the year with an 8-4 singles stretch, claiming Big Ten Individuals Singles Runner-Up in Madison, Wis.
In the spring, Johann’s singles performance was highlighted by his victories over Baylor (#64 Zsombor Velcz), Purdue, Indiana, Oregon and USC. On the doubles side, Johann partnered with Leo Linquet, Anton Shepp and Calvin Mueller to collect 12 victories in the spring. Johann and Shepp claimed a dominant 6-2 win over #9 Poulsen/Miladinovic (Baylor) in early February, and the pair was consistently in the ITA national rankings for the remainder of the season. Johann and Mueller closed the spring together, going 5-1, with a perfect regular season record. The Husker captain concluded his collegiate career with a combined 84 wins.
Off the court, Johann was named to his fourth Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
2023-24: Sophomore
Lars Johann’s sophomore year was his best season yet with the Big Red, as a team captain and consistent piece of both the singles and doubles lineups. Johann tallied 16 singles wins and 11 doubles victories on the season. Johann reached 30 career singles wins and passed 20 career doubles wins. He had Big Ten singles wins against Michigan State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue and Penn State.
Off the court, Johann was named to the 2024 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
2022-23: Freshman
After not seeing the court in the 2021-22 season, Lars Johann proved to be a difference-maker for the Huskers this year. Johann finished with a 14-12 singles record, including an 8-6 mark in the spring season. He finished the year winning three of his last four completed matches. In doubles, Johann went 10-9, including 7-5 in the spring.
Off the court, Johann was named to the 2023 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
2021-22: Redshirt
Johann redshirted and did not see action in the 2021-22 season.
Off the court, Johann was named to the 2022 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for his efforts in the community.
Before Nebraska
Johann brings an impressive resume to Nebraska. Currently, he is ranked No. 102 in the men's German standings and has a career best ranking at No. 2 in the German U16. He also reached as high as No. 4 in the U18 German ranking. Johann was the state champion in Saarland and reached the semifinals at the U18 German championships two times.
Personal
The son of Bettina Johann and Carsten Johann, Lars was born Nov. 11, 2001. A management major, Lars earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May 2025. He claimed Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2023 and 2024. He is a four-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
