Huskers Set for GARC Championships

Lincoln - The Nebraska Rifle team travels to Memphis, Tenn., this weekend for the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships on Feb. 28-29. Nine schools compose the GARC. Five, including NU, are also slated to compete in the NCAA Championships next month: No. 1 Kentucky, No. 3 West Virginia, No. 5 Akron and No. 7 Navy. Army, North Carolina State, Ole Miss and host Memphis round out the field for the GARC Championships. West Virginia was the 2019 GARC Champion. Match action is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and fans can follow along on social media.
 
Last Time Out - Huskers Obliterate School Record in NCAA Qualifier
Murray, Ky. - The No. 4 Nebraska Rifle team defeated No. 9 Murray State in Murray, Ky., by a final match score of 4,707-4,685. The Huskers set numerous records on the day. The overall team score of 4,707 is the highest in school history by a significant margin, surpassing the previous high of 4,690 set on Feb. 22, 2015. This is the first time in program history the Huskers shot over 4,700. The total air rifle team score of 2,373 is the highest in program history, overtaking the previous mark of 2,368 the Huskers set last week against Ole Miss. The total smallbore score of 2,334 is also the third-highest in program history.
 
The Huskers took the lead in smallbore with a team score of 2,334. Elena Flake led the Huskers with 590, followed by Emily Cheramie with 583. Hana Musser was close behind with 582. Macey Way and Samantha Peterson fired 579 and 565, respectively, to round out the squadded scores.
 
Cheramie was out front for the Huskers in air rifle, firing 597 to lead the team to a total score of 2,373. Cheramie's 597 ties the school record for highest in program history, matching Flake's 597 from earlier in the season. She was followed by Musser and Way, who shot 593 and 592 respectively. Flake fired 591, making this the first time this season four Huskers have surpassed 590 in the same match. Maddie Korthas fired 584 to round out the squadded scores. Flake's total combined score of 1,181 was the highest on the day for either team.
 
Murray State fired a combined smallbore score of 2,321, led by Matias Kiuru's 586. In air rifle the Racers shot 2,364, led by Kiuru, who fired 593.
 
The Huskers are back in action next week for the GARC Championships in Memphis, Tenn., from Feb. 27-28. Match again will begin at 9 a.m. both days and fans can follow on social media.
