Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 5 Nebraska rifle team travels to Fort Worth, Texas, this weekend to take on third-ranked TCU and No. 13 Memphis on Nov. 16. The following day the team will face Memphis again in Fort Worth. Match action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on both days.
Last time out
The Huskers last competed against Army West Point on Nov. 9 at the Nebraska Rifle Range, earning the win with the team's highest score of the season thus far. The final team score was 4,677-4,639.
The Huskers posted an overall team score of 2,319 in smallbore, a team season high. Elena Flake led the way with a career-high 587. Flake's score was the highest of any Husker shooter in smallbore so far this season. Emily Cheramie followed with 584 and Samantha Peterson added 575. Freshmen Hana Musser and Trinity Gomez fired 573 and 568, respectively, to round out the Huskers. Although not squadded, Kayla Gadeken fired 572.
In air rifle the team came together to put up a score of 2,358, led by Elena Flake's match-high score of 594. Kinga Aletto matched her career best with 591, and Macey Way added 590. Samantha Peterson (583) and Elizabeth Lorentz (576) rounded out the Husker squad. Shooting independently, Bailey Powell recorded 587.
Scouting TCU
The No. 3 Frogs hold a 4-1 record so far this season and have reached the 4,700 point mark in all but one match. Nebraska is 4-17-1 against TCU since 1999. The Huskers have fallen short in the last five meetings and look to reverse the trend. Shooters to watch are sophomore Kristen Hemphill and junior Casey Lutz. Both routinely lead the team in smallbore and air rifle. The Frogs are coached by sixteenth-year coach Karen Monez.
Scouting Memphis
The No. 13 Tigers currently hold a 1-4 record this season. Nebraska is 31-8 against Memphis since 1999. Freshman Taylor Gibson is the shooter to watch for the Tigers. Memphis is led by third-year head coach Dan Hermsmeier, a former Tiger who led the team to their best NCAA finish in school history as a senior in 2014.
