Huskers Shoot Career Highs Against No. 1 Kentucky

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska rifle team opened the 2018-19 season on Saturday with a 4,635-4,686 loss to defending champion Kentucky. The Huskers shot well but ultimately could not overcome Kentucky’s early lead in smalbore.

The Huskers posted a team score of 2,287 in smallbore, led by junior Samantha Peterson’s mark of 584.  Junior Kayla Gadeken and sophomore Emily Cheramie fired 570 and 569, respectively. Seniors Nina Radulovic and Hannah Virga both shot 564 to round out the squadded members. Although not squadded, sophomore Mari Butler posted a career-high score of 564.

Kayla Gadeken led the Huskers in air rifle with 590, her highest air rifle score since her career-high score of 591 against UTEP on Nov. 12, 2016. Samantha Peterson and Emily Cheramie added 589 and 586, respectively. Nina Radulovic (583) and freshman Kinga Aletto (582) completed the Huskers’ squadded effort. Nebraska’s team score in air rifle was 2,348. Elizabeth Ewert fired 580 to set a new career high.

Kentucky finished the day with a team score of 2,320 in smallbore, led by a score of 586 from senior Hanna Carr. Freshman Will Shaner led the field in air rifle with a score of 598, contributing to the Wildcat’s team score of 2,366.
