Huskers Fall to No. 1 West Virginia

Lincoln , Neb. -- The No.15 Nebraska rifle team hosted top-ranked West Virginia on Saturday, falling to the Mountaineers 4,653-4,716 in the first home match of the 2017-18 season.

Junior Nina Radulovic and sophomore Kayla Gadeken led the Huskers in smallbore, each notching a mark of 578.  Sophomore Samantha Peterson brought in a 575, senior Dacotah Faught notched a 573 and freshman Emily Cheramie added a score of 569. Juniors Hannah Virga and Rachel Yager posted scores of 566 and 570, respectively. Sophomore Maddie Korthas (569), sophomore Sarah Sutton (562), freshman Elizabeth Ewert (567) and freshman Mari Butler (549) rounded out the Huskers. Nebraska’s overall score for smallbore was 2,304.

Nebraska totaled 2,349 in air rifle.  Dacotah Faught paved the way with a score of 592, receiving assistance from Samantha Peterson (591) and Kayla Gadeken (584). Hannah Virga notched a 582, with Maddie Korthas firing a 571. Rachel Yager and Elizabeth Ewert brought in 576 and 575, respectively. Nina Radulovic (581), Mari Butler (580), Emily Cheramie (579) and Sarah Sutton (565) completed Nebraska’s air rifle action.

David Koenders (588) was the Mountaineers’ top performer in smallbore, with Milica Babic (597) pacing West Virginia in air rifle.  The team finished the day with 2,336 in smallbore and 2,380 in air rifle.

NU will host No.11 Army West Point next weekend at the Nebraska Rifle Range at 8 a.m. A free continental breakfast provided  by Hy-Vee will be available for fans beginning at 8 a.m.
