Huskers Head to Charleston for NCAA Test Event

The sixth-ranked Nebraska rifle team will begin the 2017-18 season with a preseason exhibition match in Charleston, S.C. The Huskers will face NC State and Ole Miss, both of which appear on NU’s regular-season schedule. The match will provide the Huskers a chance to compete in a match setting before the season opener on Oct. 14. NC State is ranked ninth going into the match and Ole Miss is ranked fourteenth. Nebraska is the only one of the three that appeared in the NCAA Championships last season.

Nebraska will look to lone senior Dacotah Faught and sophomore Samantha Peterson, both returning All-Americans, for leadership as the Huskers compete as a team for the first time this season. Juniors Katie Brown, Nina Radulovic, Hannah Virga, and Rachel Yager will look to pick up the slack after the team lost two All-American seniors when they graduated from the program. Joining Peterson as returning sophomores are Kayla Gadeken, Maddie Korthas, and Sarah Sutton. The sophomores will look to contribute to the Huskers’ success and ultimately a record-setting sixth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships this season. The Huskers welcomed three freshmen to the team in 2017-18.  Mari Butler, Emily Cheramie, and Elizabeth Ewert will look to use the NCAA Test Event as a learning experience before the regular season begins.

Competition for the Huskers will begin on Sunday at 8 am in the McAlister Field House in Charleston, S.C. Check Huskers.com for more information.
