Game Notes

Nebraska won its fifth straight game and its 30th of the season...Nebraska's five-run fourth inning marked the 19th time this season the Huskers have scored five or more runs in an inning...the Huskers won for the 10th time in their last 11 games...NU improved to 15-14 in non-conference games this season....with her 3-for-4 day, Alicia Armstrong has now reached base safely in 18 of her last 23 plate appearances.

Lincoln - The Nebraska softball team broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run sixth inning to defeat Drake, 7-2, on Tuesday night at Bowlin Stadium.

The Huskers had to rally for the victory after giving up two runs in the top of the first on a two-out, two-run homer from Hayley Nybo.

Nebraska pulled even at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Junior Kiki Stokes began the inning with a single, and she scored on a one-out double from classmate Alicia Armstrong. Armstrong then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single from senior Steph Pasquale.

The game remained tied until Nebraska sent nine batters to the plate in the decisive sixth inning. The Huskers produced four hits in the frame and were aided by two key Drake errors. Senior Kylee Muir reached on a  one-out error and advanced to third on a single from junior Mattie Fowler. Freshman Laura Barrow then hit a grounder to short that was misplayed, allowing freshman pinch runner Taylor Otte to score the go-ahead run.

After gaining the lead, the Huskers quickly added some insurance runs. Stokes lined the next pitch to the gap in left center for a two-run double that gave Nebraska a 5-2 lead. Armstrong then capped the inning with a two-run homer to center.

Armstrong finished 3-for-4 in the win with a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs. A total of four Huskers had multiple hits, as Nebraska out-hit Drake, 12-6. Stokes was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Pasquale finished 3-for-4 and Fowler went 2-for-3.

In the circle, freshman right-hander Kaylan Jablonski earned her fourth victory in five games. Jablonski (7-5) tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief. Junior right-hander Emily Lockman earned the start and allowed two runs in 5.0 innings.

With the win, Nebraska improved to 30-19 on the season. Rebekah Schmidt (17-13) took the loss for Drake, which fell to 28-19 on the season.

Nebraska wraps up the regular season this weekend with a three-game series against Illinois on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Bowlin Stadium.
