Iowa City, Iowa - The Nebraska softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of the Iowa Hawkeyes with a 16-7 victory in game two Wednesday night in Iowa City.

The Huskers, who ran their Big Ten Conference winning streak to eight, outscored Iowa 28-9 in the doubleheader. In improving to 17-12 overall and 5-0 in league play, Nebraska scored double-digit runs for the fourth time in its five conference games.

The 16 runs were the second-most runs Nebraska has scored in a conference game. Senior Steph Pasquale capped a tremendous doubleheader with another outstanding effort in game two. Pasquale went 4-for-5 with a double, two homers and five RBIs in the nightcap. In the doubleheader, the Pompton Lakes, N.J., native went 7-for-9 with three doubles, three homers, five runs and 10 RBIs.

Sophomore MJ Knighten also produced a big performance in game two, going 3-for-4 with a double, a grand slam and four RBIs. Junior Kiki Stokes also homered and drove in three, while sophomore Cassie McClure and freshman Laura Barrow added a pair of RBIs each. Freshman Gina Metzler came off the bench to finish 2-for-2 and produce her second career multi-hit game.

Freshman right-hander Kaylan Jablonski earned her first career victory, settling the Huskers down after Iowa scored six runs to pull within one in the third inning. Jablonski (1-3) allowed one run on four hits in 4.1 innings of relief. McClure earned the start and allowed six runs in 2.2 innings.

Just as they did in game one of the doubleheader, the Huskers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Stokes began the game with a walk, before Knighten singled. Both Stokes and Knighten stole bases, and the duo scored on a two-run single from McClure. Pasquale then gave the Huskers a 4-0 lead with a two-run homer, her second home run of the doubleheader.

Nebraska used another two-run homer to stretch the lead to 6-0 in the top of the second.  Barrow drew a leadoff walk before Stokes blasted the first pitch she saw over the fence in right center for her eighth home run of the season.

Iowa got the two runs back in the bottom of the frame on a two-run double from Angela Schmiederer.

Pasquale then led off the top of the third with her second homer of the game, her third home run of the doubleheader and her fifth home run in five games.

The Hawkeyes did not go away, using a three-run homer and a solo home run to pull within 7-6 in the bottom of the third.

With the game tightening up, Nebraska used a two-out rally to take a 12-6 lead in the top of the fifth. The first two Huskers were quickly retired before sophomore Kat Woolman singled and junior Mattie Fowler and Barrow walked. With the bases loaded, Stokes was hit by a pitch to score the first run of the inning. Knighten then crushed a grand slam to left field to extend the lead to 12-6.

The Huskers brought the run-rule into effect by plating a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Pasquale got the rally started with a one-out double that was followed by a single from Metzler. An error then loaded the bases before Barrow delivered a two-out, two-run single up the middle to score sophomore pinch runner Lotte Sjulin and Metzler.

After Iowa extended the game with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, Pasquale capped her day with a two-run single off the wall in center that accounted for the final 16-7 margin.

Nebraska returns home this weekend for a three-game series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with No. 12 Minnesota at Bowlin Stadium. Fans with a baseball ticket can get into that day's softball game for free on all three days.
