Nebraska Triumphs at Home

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 9 Nebraska men's gymnastics team dominated their first home meet of the season Sunday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers took the win with a total score of 423.300, a team high for NU this season. UIC struggled to match Nebraska, finishing with a team total of 397.500.

The Huskers started off slow on floor, posting their lowest event total of the day (69.150). Sophomore Grant Perdue found his momentum on floor, earning a 15.05 on the event. Micah Christensen followed Perdue, snagging a 14.55. Juniors CJ Schaaf, Wyatt Aycock and Mark Ringle struggled, unable to earn scores over 13.70.

NU then moved to pommel horse, where they made up for their slow start by posting a season-high event total of 71.550. Redshirt Freshman Ryan Irick started off the Huskers on horse, receiving a 13.60 which would set the bar for the rest of the rotation. Aycock earned the highest score on horse for the Huskers (14.85), closely followed by Eric Schryver (14.70).

Nebraska also set a team high for the season on rings, earning a 71.000. NU was lead by all-arounder C.J. Schaaf on the event, who posted a 14.40. Five of the six Huskers on rings posted scores of 14.05 or higher.

The Huskers finished up the meet on parallel bars and high bar, finishing with consistent scores on each event. Eric Schryver continued to dominate parallel bars for the Huskers, posting the team's highest score for the meet (14.15). He also claimed the highest score on high bar, earning a 14.30.

NU swept all of the event titles, along with the all-around title, which went to Schaaf, who earned a personal best 81.050.

The Huskers hits the road once again next weekend, traveling to Minneapolis to face the Golden Gophers. Minnesota will host Nebraska at the Sports Pavillion on Feb. 2. The meet will kick off at 7 p.m. CST.
