Palo Alto, Calif. - The No. 5 Nebraska men's gymnastics team struggled to overcome Stanford, Oklahoma and California on Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif. The Huskers finished in fourth with a total score of 421.900. No. 3 Stanford claimed the meet championship with a 437.550 total.
Nebraska saw its strongest performance on parallel bars, claiming third overall on the event with a 70.000. Freshman Sam Chamberlain lead the Huskers on the event, scoring a solid 14.40 and earning him fifth overall on the event. Eric Schryver followed close behind, earning a 14.30 on the event. NU's Wyatt Aycock, Gabriel Jolley and Louis Klein filled up the remaining three spots, earning scores in the high 13's.
Schryver posted the best individual result of the night, tying for fourth on high bar. The junior co-captain earned a 14.75 on the event, setting a new personal best.
Nebraska also saw several other gymnasts place in the top ten on individual events. Schryver also placed seventh on parallel bars (14.30) and tied for eighth on pommel horse (14.15). Jolley tied for fifth on vault (14.50), junior Mark Ringle tied for seventh on floor (15.10) and Aycock placed eighth on vault (14.45).
Unlike last weekend, the Huskers saw the most difficulty on pommel horse. NU received two scores above 14 (Aycock and Schryver) with the rest receiving scores in the mid-13's. Nebraska finished up the rotation with an event score of 68.800.
NU finished up the night placing two gymnasts in the top five of the all-around competiton. Aycock finished up the night with an all-around score of 82.100, placing him in fourth, just behind California's Kevin Wolting and Kyle Zemeir, who tied for second (84.050).
Junior C.J. Schaaf ended the night in fifth in the all-around competition after another night of mid-pack finishes. He finished with a total score of 80.400 Saturday night.
The Huskers return to Lincoln next weekend for their home opener against Illinois-Chicago. The meet will be held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Jan. 27, starting at 1 p.m. CST.
