Cleveland, Ohio - The Nebraska women's gymnastics team posted a score of 196.725 Saturday afternoon to finish fourth at the Super Six Finals of the NCAA Championships at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
With their fourth-place finish, the Huskers matched their best finish at the NCAA Championships in school history. The last time Nebraska came in fourth at the NCAA Championships was in 2003, when Nebraska posted a score of 197.125.
The Huskers, who were making their 10th overall Super Six appearance, closed the year with 22-12 record.
Alabama took the 2011 team title with a score of 197.65. UCLA came in second, posting a total of 197.375. Oklahoma was third (197.25), while Utah finished fifth (196.50) and Michigan ended in sixth (196.425).
NU opened the competition on bars, and Maria Scaffidi, Janelle Giblin and Emily Wong all tabbed scores of 9.875, while Brittnee Habbib added a 9.85. Lora Evenstad posted a 9.825, giving NU an event total of 49.30. With Michigan and UCLA both on byes, at the end of the first rotation Nebraska stood in second, behind Alabama (49.575), but ahead of Oklahoma (49.175) and Utah (49.025)
Nebraska moved on to beam as Habbib and Skinner both hit marks of 9.80, a season-high-tying score for Skinner. Wong added a 9.775, while Giblin and Jamie Schleppenbach both posted 9.75s each. Nebraska totaled a 48.875 on beam, giving them a running score of 98.175.
Following their bye and entering the third rotation, the Huskers stood in fourth place with a running total of 98.175 Alabama and UCLA were tied at first with a 98.85, while Oklahoma was third with a running score of 98.525. Utah stood in fifth (98.075) and Michigan was sixth (97.90). Nebraska continued to floor where Evenstad posted a team-high score of 9.90. Davis added a 9.85, while Habbib and Steinauer each tallied marks of 9.825, a season-high for Habbib. Wong tabbed a 9.80, giving NU a floor total of 49.20. The Huskers notched a running total of 147.375 heading into their final event of the afternoon
Nebraska capped the evening on vault before a bye where Schleppenbach hit a solid 9.95 to lead the Huskers and tie her career-high mark. Her score put her tied at third on Nebraska's NCAA postseason record list for vault. Every other Husker to compete on vault earned a mark of 9.85, including Steinauer, Giblin, Skinner and Evenstad. Nebraska closed the day with a 49.35 on vault and a fourth-place NCAA finish.
Six Huskers - Evenstad, Davis, Giblin, Schleppenbach, Wong and Scaffidi - will compete in Sunday's NCAA Individual Event Finals at the Wolstein Center at Noon (central).
