Huskers Wrap Up First Day at GARC Championships

Oxford, Miss.-The Nebraska rifle team has completed their first full day at the Great American Rifle Conference championships. Teams have completed individual smallbore and team smallbore competition so far.

The weekend of GARC action kicked off on Friday night with an awards banquet. The Huskers brought home a pair of accolades from the awards ceremony, the first being Nebraska capturing a Sportsmanship Award along with Ole Miss. Senior Ryann McGough was also named one of five Scholar Athletes of the Year in the conference.

Saturday moved on to smallbore action on the range, where individual and team scores were recorded. The Huskers were paced by sophomore Janine Dutton, who shot a 574 on the day. Ryann McGough added a score of 565 to be second-highest for NU.

The Huskers shot a team total of 2,261 in smallbore, placing them at sixth overall behind West Virginia, Kentucky, Army, Ole Miss and Memphis, and ahead of North Carolina State.

Action tomorrow will move to air rifle, with team air rifle starting at 8 a.m. and team air rifle finals slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. Live Stats are available at olemisssports.com’s GARC Central page.
