Fourth Ranked Nebraska Seeks Second Straight Win

The Nebraska bowling team is returning to action after a short five day turnaround to compete in the Holiday Collegiate Classic in Bessemer, Alabama. The Huskers are coming off of their third event win of the season at the Morgan State Invitational. The three-day Classic is scheduled to begin Friday, Feb. 25 and last until Sunday, Feb. 27 and include a field of twelve teams.

Teams included in the Classic include: University of Nebraska, Alabama A&M, University of Central Missouri, Southern University, Alabama State University, Florida A&M University, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Arkansas State University, Minnesota State Mankato, University of South Carolina and Vanderbilt University.

The event will begin the afternoon of Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. with practice on starting lanes, team introductions and five 4-game baker matches. The event will conclude for the day on Friday at roughly 8 p.m. On Saturday morning, the event will resume at 9:30 a.m. with five traditional games concluding around 2:30 p.m. followed by a team dinner at Holiday Bowl. Finally, the event will conclude Sunday. The final day of competition will start at 8:30 a.m. with a best-of-seven baker match, followed by bracketed finals featuring two more best-of-seven baker matches. The award ceremony fill immediate follow, along with the naming of the Holiday Collegiate Classic's All-Tournament team.

Following the Holiday Collegiate Classic, the Huskers will be out of action until March 18 when the squad travels to Nashville, Tenn., to take part in the Music City Classic. The event runs from March 18-20.

Huskers Ranked Fourth in Latest NTCA Coaches Poll

The newest NTCA Coaches poll, released Feb. 21, 2011, has the Huskers falling to fourth place after previously being ranked third in the January poll. Nebraska and Central Missouri swapped spots, with Central Missouri garnering a first-place vote. Fairleigh Dickinson holds the top spot, receiving 20 first-place votes, followed by Maryland-Eastern Shore (3). Vanderbilt made the largest jump, moving up seven spots into fifth in the poll.

Four: The Magic Number?

At the Holiday Collegiate Classic, the Huskers will be looking for their fourth event win of the season. It would be their twelfth consecutive year with at least four event wins, dating back to the 1998-99 season.

The Nebraska women's bowling team won its third event of the year over the weekend at the Morgan State Invitational in Baltimore, Md. The Huskers compiled an 11-1 record over the course of the tournament, followed by Maryland Eastern Shore and Vanderbilt. 

Three Huskers were also named to the ten-person All-Tournament team with Jasmine Laugerman leading the way. Laugerman compiled a tournament-high 229 average. Kristi Mickelson (197) and Danielle van der Meer (196) took eighth and tenth on the All-Tournament team, respectively. 

"We've always had success in Baltimore," Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub said. "They treat us very nicely and are always glad to come back. Our team is looking good and playing really well."

The bowling team will now have a short turnaround before their next tournament at the Holiday Classic in Bessemer, Ala. The tournament runs from Feb. 25-27.
