2011-12 (Senior)
Valerie Calberry (pronounced Cal-berry) capped an outstanding career for the NU bowling team as a senior in 2011-12, helping the Huskers to a No. 3 finish at the NCAA Championships. Calberry earned NTCA honorable-mention All-America honors by closing her career with 198.8 average.
Calberry helped lead the Huskers to the NCAA semifinals in Wickliffe, Ohio with a 199 average and 64 pocket hits during the tournament.
As a senior, the native of Brampton, Ontario, Canada averaged a career-best 214.2 at the Morgan State Invitational in Baltimore to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. She added a strong effort at the Music City Classic, when she led the Huskers to their first tournament title of the season with a 179.5 average and 79 pocket hits.
Calberry ended her senior season with a 198.8 season pinfall average, bowlilng 43 games.
2010-11 (Junior)
Calberrywas a mainstay in Nebraska's team and Baker format lineups as a junior. She finished with a 194.10 average during her 32 team games on the season. She was at her best in the Capital City Collegiate Classic, where she bowled in all five team games and recorded a 1,044 total pinfall on her way to a tournament-best 209 average. She earned a spot on the Capital City Collegiate Classic All-Tournament team.
Calberry also bowled well at the 2011 NCAA Championships, producing a 1,413 pinfall through seven team games. Calberry's 73 pocket hits also ranked third on the team during the NCAA Championships, which helped the Huskers advance to the NCAA semifinals.
In the classroom, Calberry earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors and claimed a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall and Spring Honor Roll.
2009-10 (Sophomore)
Calberry played a major role as a Husker sophomore in 2009-10. She competed in nearly 80 games, including 14 games at the 2010 NCAA Championships. Calberry registered her highest individual average of the season with her 213 at the NCAA Championships. Calberry's performance was a crucial element to Nebraska's NCAA runner-up finish.
2008-09 (Freshman)
Calberry made an instant impact as a freshman, capturing a second-place finish at the Warhawk Classic with a 192.80 average. She rolled a 196 average to finish fourth individually at the Maverick Challenge, and claimed an eighth-place finish at the Capital City Collegiate Classic with a 197 average. Her best regular-season finish came at the Holiday Classic, as she rolled a season-high 210 average to take fourth. Calberry wrapped up the regular season with a 201 average for second-place at the Music City Classic.
Calberry entered the 2009 NCAA Bowling Championships with a 193.90 average over 52 regular-season games. She not only helped Nebraska to the 2009 NCAA team title, but she also earned third-team NTCA All-America honors for her efforts during the NCAA Championships.
Before Nebraska
Calberry competes for the Canadian National Team. She has earned a total of 11 Canadian National medals and has captured one gold, one silver and one bronze medal in international competitions. She was also the 2008 Canadian Youth Bowler of the Year.
She graduated from Chinguacousy Secondary School in 2008, where she was named to the honor roll all four years of high school. She also finished in the top two percent of her class.
Personal
Valerie was born Nov. 20, 1990, to Danny and Anne Calberry in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. She has two older brothers, Christopher and Jonathan. A nutrition, exercise and health science major at Nebraska, Calberry earned her bachelor's degree in December of 2012. She captured first-team academic All-Big 12 honors in 2011 and was a six-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
