The Nebraska rifle team dropped their first match of the year today against the Air Force Falcons. The Huskers lost by a score of 4,626-4,565 at the NU Rifle Range to fall to 2-1 on the season.
"This match was a slap in the face for the team," said Head Coach Morgan Hicks. "They want to erase it, fix what is wrong and move on. I expect us to do that."
Janine Dutton led the team in both disciplines, posting a 571 in smallbore and a 590 in air rifle for a combined score of 1,161. Her air rifle score was the top score of the meet.
"Janine Dutton was able to pull through in Air Rifle and post a 590," said Hicks. "I am proud of her for doing it on a day that was a rough one for the team."
Ryann McGough brought in the second highest combined score of the day with 1,147. Her air rifle score of 581 was the second-best for the Huskers.
"Today was definitely not our day," said Hicks "Overall, I am proud of the fact that the team kept fighting and never gave up."
Nebraska will have a two week break before they see action again. The team will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on Kentucky on Nov. 6 and TCU on Nov. 7. Both matches will start at 8 a.m.
