Stenger Takes Third at UVa Fall Classic

Charlottesville, Va.--- The Nebraska men's tennis concluded play at the annual UVa Classic on Sunday, Sept. 12, by capturing one third-place finish in singles, and two third-place results in doubles play. Overall, seven Huskers combined to win 20 matches at their first tournament of the fall season.

Sophomore Andre Stenger (NU) defeated Rafael Paez (NCSU) 7-5, 6-1, in the third-place match of the White singles bracket to finish the weekend strong. Stenger went 3-1 on the weekend and won all three of his matches in straight sets.

After losing his first match of the tournament, junior Benedikt Lindheim (NU) won three straight matches to capture the back draw of the Blue singles bracket. Lindheim took down Sebastien Vidal (W&M) 6-1, 6-4, in the back draw final, and finished the weekend with three victories.

In doubles play, two Husker teams were able to win their third-place matches. Calin Paar and Lindheim defeated Hugo Klientovsky and Niklas Schroeder (EKU), 8-4, in the Blue doubles bracket, while Christopher Aumueller and Stenger (NU) took down Charles Quay and Max Haskin (Corn), 8-4, in the Black doubles bracket. Overall, the Huskers finished 5-5 in doubles matches throughout the tournament.

The Huskers will return to the court on Sept. 24, when they travel back to Charlottesville, Va., to play in the Virginia Ranked Plus One Tournament.
