The Nebraska men's golf team, coming off a dual victory against Creighton, will host this week's event, the 10th Fairway Club Invitational. The tournament will be played on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 13-14 at ArborLinks Golf Club in Nebraska City.
Last year the Huskers got second place, when Drake took the team title. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, while the final 18 will be played on Tuesday. Each day the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The teams competing this year are Nebraska, Kansas, Central Arkansas, Wyoming, South Dakota State, Creighton, Western Illinois, Illinois State, Missouri State, Oral Roberts, Butler and UMKC.
Last year, Nebraska was often led by then-senior Brandon Crick. But this year there are five seniors: Mike Coatman, Brett Nymeyer, Tyler Parsloe, Brett Sundberg and Andrew Wyatt. In addition, the Huskers have two newcomers this season: freshmen Manuel Lavin de la Riva and Josh Reinertson. Reinertson will redshirt this year, and Lavin de la Riva will be playing as an individual this week.
Going into the Fairway Club Invitational, Nebraska Head Coach Bill Spangler said that his team needs to play well and they need to improve as a team.
