Senior (2013-14)
After sitting out for the majority of the season, Manuel Lavin (pronounced Man-well La-VEEN) competed in each of Nebraska's last three tournaments for a 78.70 stroke average in 10 rounds. His best finish was at the Oak Hill Intercollegiate, where he tied for 19th at 230. Lavin also competed at the Hawkeye Invitational and Big Ten Championships during his senior campaign.
Junior (2012-13)
Lavin played in nine tournaments for a 75.89 stroke average in 2012-13, third-best on the team. Lavin’s best finish of the fall was a tie for 27th at the Fairway Club Invitational. He turned in the best Husker performance at the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate in the spring, tying for 29th with 225 strokes. In the following tournament, Lavin tied for 18th at the Hawkeye Invitational, posting 222 over three rounds.
Sophomore (2011-12)
Lavin appeared in every tournament for the Huskers during the 2011-12 season, compiling a 75.35 stroke average, which was good for second on the team. Lavin opened the season with his career-best finish by taking second at the Fairway Club Invitational. He shot a career-best 1-under-par 215. Lavin broke par in three rounds during the season, including a 2-under-par 70 at the Firestone Invitational, where he tied for 22nd.
Lavin posted one top-25 finish in the spring, his 17th-place result at the Jackrabbit Invitational. His 3-under-par 69 in the second round helped guide him to a 1-over-par 217 total. In the classroom, Lavin earned academic All-Big Ten honors as well as Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll accolades during the spring semester.
Freshman (2010-11)
Lavin played in two tournaments for Nebraska during the fall season, averaging 80.00 strokes per round. Lavin’s best round came at the Fairway Club Invitational, when he fired a 2-under-par 70 in the second round. He finished the tournament in a tie for 18th.
Lavin did get off to a strong start in the classroom, earning spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.
Before Nebraska
Lavin is the first recruit from Mexico under Spangler. Lavin competed for Club Campestre de Aguascalientes.
In the 15-18 year-old age group of the 2009 U.S. Teen World Golf Championship, Lavin tied for ninth place with a 74.67 stroke average through three rounds. At the Children’s Area Youth Center Tour, Lavin placed third in the 16-18 year-old age group with a 74.38 stroke average over eight rounds of play. Lavin finished second at the 2009 Mexican Match Play Championship.
Personal
Manuel is the son of Manuel Lavin Diaz and Amanda de La Riva and has one brother, Pablo. Manuel was born on Jan. 23, 1992. A finance major at Nebraska, Lavin earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2012, 2013 and 2014. In addition, he is a four-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
