Aumueller Falls in Final at Regional Championships

Tulsa, Okla.---After winning five straight matches to reach the final of the Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championship in Tulsa, Okla., Christopher Aumueller (Neb.) faced off against the nation's top-rated player Oleksandr Nedovyesov (Okla. St.) in a battle between two of the Big 12's most talented players.

After an exciting first set that was ultimately decided by a tiebreaker, Nedovyesov took control of the second set and defeated Aumueller by the score of 7-6 (7), 6-1. Head coach Kerry McDermott was impressed with the way Aumueller played in the first set, but pointed to a key point in the tiebreaker that turned the momentum of the match.

"He played a pretty good fist set," McDermott said. "He was up 3-0 in the breaker and had volley on top of the net to go up 4-0 and missed it. Things kind of turned around after that"

Even with the loss, McDermott was impressed with all the Huskers play during the fall season and hopes to continue that in the spring season.

"He (Aumueller) knows he can play on that level, which is good," McDermott said. "He's playing some good tennis. We feel good about the finish of our fall season as a team and look to continue our success and hopefully do some good things in the spring season."

Aumueller ends the fall season with an overall record of 10-4 and is in contention for an at-large bid to the ITA National Indoor Championships hosted by Yale University.
