Huskers Sweep Pair of Matches at West Point

West Point, N.Y. - The Nebraska rifle team won two matches this weekend in West Point, N.Y., to improve its record to 4-1 this season. NU defeated NC State on Saturday, 4,595-4,555 and outshot Army on Sunday, 4,615-4,598.

Against NC State, Katie Kostal and Ryann McGough shared the top smallbore score in the team lineup at 569, while Amanda Jeffries recorded the best score that counted for the Big Red with a 584 mark.

NU got impressive showings from its individuals as well. Sophomore Katie Kostal captured the air rifle and overall title with a career-best 587 air rifle mark and 1,156 overall score. Freshman Janine Dutton shot a career-best 575 in smallbore, the top score in the match. Freshman Joyce Kim recorded a 584 in air rifle to tie with Jeffries for the top mark.

On Sunday, Kim stole the show against Army, competing in both disciplines as an individual but finishing with the top air rifle and overall scores in the match. Kim's career-high 593 in air rifle edged out teammate Christine Costello's career-best 591 for the match best. Kim finished with a total of 1,162. Costello, at 1,158, and McGough, at 1,157, led the way in the team lineup.

Nebraska shoots on the road again at Oxford, Miss., Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
