Eight Huskers Compete at Virginia Classic

The Nebraska men's tennis team kicked off its 2009 fall season on Friday at the Virginia Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Va.  After the first day of competition, the Huskers have four remaining players on the winner's side of their respective brackets.  Christopher Aumueller (Neb.), Benedikt Lindheim (Neb.), Francois Van Impe (Neb.) and Jamie Trenite (Neb.) all opened up their fall season with wins on Friday.

In the A-1 singles bracket, No. 59-rated Aumueller took care of J. Wong (Columbia) by the score of 6-3, 6-2 to advance. The Huskers did not fare as well in the A-2 singles bracket as both No.-75 rated David Bendheim (Neb.) and Calin Paar (Neb.) dropped their first round matches. Bendheim and Paar will continue play tomorrow with Bendheim taking on C. Gee (Davidson) while Paar will take on S. Gille (ETSU) in second round action. 

The Huskers found more success in the B singles bracket collecting two victories from Benedikt Lindheim and Jamie Trenite. Lindheim defeated A. Rojas (Elon) in straight sets, while freshman Jamie Trenite picked up his first victory in a Husker uniform over D. Isaza (ETSU) in three sets. Trenite will look for his second career win when he faces off against C. Helpingstine (Elon) on Saturday.

The only other Husker to collect a singles victory was Van Impe in the C-singles bracket. Van Impe beat D. Mihalov (W&M) 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Eric Sock and junior Taylor Boney both dropped their first round match ups but will look to bounce back on Saturday.
