Tulsa Tops Nebraska

Tulsa, Okla. - The Nebraska women’s tennis team fell 5-2 to No. 42 Tulsa on Wednesday evening in Tulsa, Okla. The Huskers fell to 10-5 with the loss, while Tulsa improved to 20-4. The match also marked the final non-conference match for the Huskers, finishing the year with an 8-2 non-conference record.

Tulsa began the match by winning the doubles point by claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting won at No. 2 doubles, giving them their second straight doubles victory.

The Huskers wasted little time tying the match in singles play, as Mary Weatherholt earned her 29th singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot. Tulsa regained the lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, but the Huskers turned around and tied it at 2-2 with Jana Albers’ 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles.

That would be the final points Nebraska would score on the day, however, as Tulsa took the final three matches, including two three-setters, to win 5-2.

Nebraska returns home this weekend for its final two home matches of the season. The Huskers host Oklahoma State on Friday, April 3, then play Oklahoma on Sunday, April 5. Both matches will be played at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
