38 Huskers Earn Honor Roll Spots

Lincoln - Thirty-eight members of the Nebraska football team were among 249 Nebraska student athletes named Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll after earning a grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

The 38 football players represented the largest group of student-athletes from a single Husker team. Among the 249 NU student-athletes honored, 38 had a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

Six of the perfect GPAs came from the football team, led by fullback Dane Todd, center Kurt Mann, and free safety Andrew Shanle, who each earned their degrees in the Husker’s May graduating class.

Todd, a biological sciences major, has led the way for Nebraska in the classroom, as he has been named to the honor roll all eight of his semesters at Nebraska. In 2004, Todd was a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection in addition to earning CoSIDA Academic All-District VII honors.

Mann was also named to the honor roll all eight of his semesters at Nebraska, and was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection in the 2004 season in addition to earning CoSIDA Academic All-District VII honors.

Shanle was named to the honor roll in six of his semesters at Nebraska and was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection in 2004.

The three remaining perfect GPAs were earned by freshman Jordan Congdon, junior Brandon Rigoni, and redshirt-freshman Tyler Wortman.

Mann and Todd will return to the field for the 2006-07 season, while the 35 remaining players to earn the honor were underclassmen and will also return to the field for Nebraska in the fall.
