Waco, Texas - The fifth-seeded Nebraska women's tennis team advanced to semifinal round of the Big 12 Championships for the first time in school history Friday, sweeping fourth-seed Texas Tech, 4-0.
Predictions of bad weather forced the teams to play singles first. At the top spot, Kim Hartmann, ranked 94th in the country individually, defeated Tara Browning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, while No. 114 Imke Reimers swept Cigdem Dunu, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, Milena Schulz-Gartner defeated Janet Durham, 6-2, 6-2, while Pamela Castillejos clinched the win for the Huskers at the No. 5 singles spot, defeating Erin Hunter, 6-2, 6-4.
The Huskers will face the winner of top-seeded Baylor and eighth-seed Kansas at 4 p.m. Saturday to advance to the championship round.
