Kim Hartmann Season 2005-06

2005-06: Freshman

Freshman Kim Hartmann began her Husker career on a strong note and showed flashes of what she could bring to the program at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in October. She rolled through her first five matches and defeated three ranked opponents, including the No. 28, 78, and 100 players in the country. Ranked at No. 28 nationally, Anca Anstasiu of USC was the highest-ranked player a Husker had defeated since Gitte Ostermann topped No. 22 Nataly Cahana of Old Dominion in 2003. Hartmann finished the fall with a 7-2 singles record.

 

Hartmann began the spring season ranked No. 38 nationally, the highest ranking for a Husker freshman in school history. She lived up to expectations, winding up with a spring singles record of 16-9, all at the No. 1 position. Hartmann rose to the occasion during Big 12 play, playing her way to an outstanding 8-3 mark against conference foes. Her 23 total singles wins were second-best on the team behind Imke Reimers' 25 victories.

 

Hartmann was a force on the doubles court, as well, teaming up with Milena Schulz-Gartner to earn a 17-6 record in the spring after going 0-1 in the fall. The duo lost both of their matches at the No. 1 slot, but dominated in the No. 2 position, going 17-4. Hartmann matched her conference singles record by going 8-3 on the doubles court. She was the team leader in conference wins on both the singles and doubles courts, giving her a team-high 16 combined conference victories on the season.

 

For her strong performance in her rookie campaign, Hartmann became the second Husker ever to be named Big 12 Freshman of the Year. She was also selected to the All-Big 12 first team, giving Nebraska a selection on the squad for the fourth year.

 

Before Nebraska

Hartmann came to Lincoln as the No. 67 ranked player in Germany. She played for Kolomann Grgic and Hana and Steve Guy at Fulda Gymnasium. During the summer, Hartmann competed for the TC GW Fulda club team. Hartmann went to the finals of the German Championships under-16 division. She chose Nebraska over Tennessee.

 

Personal

Kim is the daughter of Dr. Ulrich and Sigrid Hartmann. She was born in Fulda, Germany, on Sept. 15, 1986.  Kim has an older brother, Falk, 21, and a younger sister, Kris, 16. She plays the piano in her spare time and is majoring in international business.
