2005-06: Freshman
Freshman Vanessa Heute (pronounced Ho-way-tah) got off to a successful start in her first fall with the Huskers, winning four matches at the ITA Central Regional Tournament. She carried that momentum into the spring, playing in every position besides the No. 1 slot on her way to a 13-11 record. She was at her best in the back-half of the lineup, posting a 2-0 record at the No. 5 spot and cruising to a perfect 8-0 at No. 6. Heute was outstanding against Big 12 opponents, notching a mark of 7-4 in the conference, which was tied for second-best on the team.
Heute saw action in 13 doubles matches for the Huskers, all at the No. 3 position. She went 5-8 overall while posting a 2-5 mark in Big 12 play.
Heute's season was highlighted by an 11-match singles win streak, but No. 29 Michigan's Debra Striefer ended the run and the Huskers' season in a three-set thriller in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Before Nebraska
Heute came to Nebraska after ranking as high as No. 78 in Germany’s national rankings. She played for the Tus Elch Holzwicke club in Germany.
