Hill Leads Huskers to 11th Straight Win

Lincoln ? After tossing her first career no-hitter on Wednesday, freshman right-hander Molly Hill threw a one-hitter on Thursday night to lead the 16th-ranked Nebraska softball team to its 11th straight victory, 7-1, over Drake.

A freshman also led the Huskers at the plate, as Crystal Carwile finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. The effort of the freshmen led NU to its season-high 11th consecutive victory and its 12th straight victory at home, as the Huskers are a perfect 13-0 at Bowlin Stadium this season. Nebraska is now 31-6 on the season, which is tied for the best 37-game record in school history.

Not to be outdone, the seniors added a spark at the plate as KoKo Tacha snagged two hits and one run while Jessica Yoachim and Lizzy Aumua each had two runs and one hit.

In the circle, Hill improved to 16-1 on the season, allowing only one unearned run on one hit. Drake's Cassie Heller (4-11) took the loss for the Bulldogs (15-23).

Nebraska jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Senior Trisha Tannahill led off with an infield single and scored when junior Devin Porter laced a triple to the wall in center. After Porter scored on an illegal pitch and Tacha doubled to left. Freshman Brittany Pascale followed with a single through the left side and junior Carmen Kier reached first on an error that plated Tacha with the Huskers’ third run of the inning.

The Huskers loaded the bases out before Carwile ripped a two-out single up the middle that scored Yoachim and Aumua to put Nebraska up 5-0.

Drake loaded the bases in the top of the fourth on a hit batter and a pair of walks and was able to push a run across without recording a hit. Jaci Faidley came home for the Bulldogs’ lone run of the game on a one-out sacrifice fly from Susan Slycord.

NU answered Drake’s run with two of its own in the bottom of the inning. NU loaded the bases when Aumua singled, Yoachim reached on a fielder’s choice where no out was recorded and junior Jamie Waldecker reached on an error. Aumua scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Carwile and Yoachim came home to put the Huskers ahead 7-1 when junior Devin Porter reached on an error.

Nebraska returns to Big 12 play tomorrow when the Huskers host 19th-ranked Baylor at 5 p.m. That game will be carried live in the state of Nebraska on NET-2.
