Huskers Finish Second at Mountain View Collegiate

Tucson, Ariz. - The No. 47 Nebraska women's golf team fired a 293 in the final round of the Mountain View Collegiate Sunday in Tucson, Ariz., to break the Nebraska 54-hole school record with an 885, Sunday, in Tucson, Ariz., at the par-72, 6,138-yard Mountain View Golf Course.

The Huskers broke the previous record of 887, set Sept. 29-30, 1997, in the Colorado Invitational at the Coal Creek Golf Course.

Big 12 Conference foe, Kansas, won the tournament title one stroke ahead of the Huskers, with 884.  Nebraska finished ahead the other five Big 12 schools participating in the 15-team tournament field.

Junior Chrissie McArdle led the Huskers, finishing in a tie for third place with a career-low round of 70 in the final round to finish the tournament with a career-low 215.  The Eden Prairie, Minn., native passed her previous career-low of 71 which she shot three different times, including the second round of the Mountain View Collegiate.  McArdle surpassed her 54-hole career-low of 221, which she shot at both the 2003 adidas Fall Classic and the 2004 Edwin Watts/Palmetto.

"I'm proud of the team, they played well," said Coach Robin Krapfl. "They hung in there today and Chrissie (McArdle) gave it her all and finished really well today."

Senior Stephanie Ruiz finished in 13th place with 220 (72-74-74) for her sixth appearance in the top-15 this season.  Sophomore Allison Stewart placed 28th with a career-low score of 225, after firing a career-low 71 in the first round and a 74 in the final round.  The Vermillion, S.D., native shot her previous career-low 226 at the 2005 Mountain View Collegiate.

Sophomore Elli Brown came back after shooting a 71 in the second round to shoot 75, placing her in a tie for 30th with 227, while senior Sara Sackett shot 235 to finish in a tie for 56th.

The Huskers return to action, April 9-10, at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.
