Wrestling Recruiting Class Ranked Third by WIN

Coach Mark Manning and his staff have signed an outstanding recruiting class for the 2005-06 season that boasts 11 newcomers, including 10 high schoolers and one transfer, as the Huskers continue to assemble a national championship-caliber squad.  The 2005-06 class was ranked third by Wrestling International Newsmagazine and ninth in the nation by Intermat.  Nebraska was one of three Big 12 schools to be recognized with a top-10 class.

 

Among the newcomers for next season are:

125 pounds --- Austin Baier, Greenfield, Iowa (Nodaway) --- Won state title as senior at 125 pounds...placed second as a junior.
 

133 pounds --- Andrew Wiens, Beatrice (Beatrice) --- Four-time medalist at Nebraska state meet...state champion as senior...career record of 148-16...Cadet national folkstyle champion.
 

133/141 pounds --- Mike Rowe, Huntingtown, Md. (<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>DeMathaCatholic) --- Four-time Maryland state champion...three-time national prep champion...Junior All-American...three-time Cadet All-American...career record of 221-8.

 Kenny Jordan, Frankfort, Ill. (Mt.Carmel) --- Two-time Illinois state champion...two-time junior All-American...all-time career leader in wins at Mt. Carmel with 175 victories.

41/149 pounds --- Brady Lamar, Silver Lake, Kan. (Silver Lake) ---  Four-time Kansas state medalist...career record of 125-25.
 

149 pounds --- Jake Lewis, Balsam Lake, Wis. (Amery) --- State meet placewinner three times during career...ranked third nationally in weight class by Wrestling USA Magazine...Junior Nationals runner-up in Greco-Roman.
  149 pounds --- Cash Coolidge, Omaha, Neb. (Omaha Skutt/Nebraska-Omaha) --- Three-time placewinner in Nebraska state meet...won state titles as sophomore and senior...third as a junior...finished with 132-16 record in career...placed seventh at High School Senior Nationals...two-time Junior National Greco-Roman All-American...member of state championship teams all four years of high school.
  174/184 pounds --- Craig Brester, Howells, Neb. (Howells) --- Two-time Nebraska state champion...placed at state meet all four years...finished with career record of 141-4.
  184 pounds --- Vince Jones, Sicklerville, N.J. (Winslow Township) --- Won state title twice during career and placed third as sophomore...Junior National All-American...ended career with 137-12 mark...added 97 pins during high school career.
  197 pounds --- Levi Wofford, Aurora, Neb. (Aurora) --- Two-time Nebraska state champion...four-time placewinner at state meet...ended career with record of 133-13...placewinner at High School Senior Nationals.
  Heavyweight --- Stefan Tighe, Erie, Pa. (Cathedral Prep) --- Two-time placewinner at Pennsylvania state meet...finished as runner-up as senior...also played football where he was honorable-mention all-state as defensive lineman.
