Career Notes
2006-With top-four finishes in all five tournaments in which he participated, Tighe opened his collegiate career with a strong season that saw him go 18-6 at heavyweight.  Tighe started his collegiate wrestling career with a fourth-place finish at the Harold Nichols Open on Nov. 12 after winning four of his six matches at the event.  A week later, Tighe took third at the Kaufman-Brand Open in the 20-and-under after winning four of his five matches.  On Dec. 10, Tighe earned third at the UNK Loper Open with wins in four of five matches.

 

After the holiday break, Tighe won four of his five matches en route to a third-place finish at the Dana College Open, including two pins.  Tighe closed his first year at NU with a second-place finish at the Brand Open on Jan. 21.  Tighe got to the finals with a pair of major-decision victories.

 

Before Nebraska-Tighe wrestled to a career record of 77-28 as a three-year letterwinner for Coach Jeff Catrabone at <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>CathedralPreparatory School.  Tighe notched a pair of top-six finishes in the state championships, and his Cathedral Preparatory team was ranked 18th nationally in 2004.  Tighe also earned two letters in football and was an honorable-mention all-state performer.

 

Personal-Stefan was born on Aug. 25, 1987 in Erie, Pa., and is the son of Terry and Christine Tighe.  He has one sister, Erin, 12, and one brother, Matt, 20.  Tighe has not declared a major at NU.
