Enea Leads Sooners to 4-0 Victory

Norman, Okla. ? Christina Enea went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to lead 10th-ranked Oklahoma to a 4-0 victory over the Nebraska softball team on Sunday at the OU Softball Complex.

Nebraska fell to 32-18 overall with the loss and 8-8 in the Big 12 Conference. OU improved to 44-13 and 12-6. Sophomore right-hander Ashley DeBuhr (20-16) took the loss for NU, allowing four runs (three earned) in five innings. Freshman right-hander Jordan Keen pitched a perfect sixth inning in relief.

All-American Kamie Keiter (26-5) picked up her 11th shutout of the season, allowing just two hits and striking out 10.

Oklahoma jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Norelle Dickson reached on an error to start the inning and Kristin Vesely followed with an infield single. After Dickson advanced to third on another Husker error, Vesely stole second and Enea doubled to left field to score Dickson and Vesely, before DeBuhr retired the next three hitters.

Nebraska threatened in the top of the second but was unable to push a run across. Junior Trisha Tannahill was hit by a pitch to start the inning and then sophomore Jamie Waldecker reached on a fielder’s choice and Tannahill was safe at second on the play. Junior Katie Linke advanced the runners to second and third with a bunt, before sophomore Devin Porter struck out swinging. Freshman Cassie Kleinsmith then hit a slow grounder to short and was thrown out on a close play at first.

NU threatned again in the fourth inning when Tannahill and Waldecker reached in nearly identical fashion. Tannahill was hit by a one-out pitch from Keiter and Waldecker reached on a fielder’s choice when Tannahill reached second base safely on an error. With runners on first and second, Linke and Porter each struck out looking.

The Sooners added two more runs in the fifth inning when Enea homered to left field to score Dickson, who led off the inning with a single.

Nebraska wraps up the regular season with a pair of games at Missouri next weekend.
