Huskers Claim 10 Wins in Final Day of Holiday Inn Invite

Lincoln ? Priscilla Lopes led the Nebraska track and field team with wins in the women’s 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash in the final day of the Holiday Inn Invitational Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.

Lopes ran a winning time of 8.21 in the finals of the 60 hurdles to notch her second provisional-qualifying mark in as many weeks in the event. In the final event of the day and her fourth race of the day, the Whitby, Ontario, native ran a winning time of 24.06 to easily defeat the field of 36 competitors.

"I thought we had a lot of nice races today, and we did well in a lot of events," Head Coach Gary Pepin said. "Priscilla ran well today. Becky Breisch had another real good throw and Dusty Stamer had another good day. Overall, we saw some more improvement and with some athletes working through this meet, I thought we had a good meet."

Stamer highlighted the day on the men’s side, running a solid NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 6.67 in the 60 meters. He was just outrun by Barton County’s Steve Mullings, but finished just ahead of teammate Oliver Williams, who clocked a time of 6.78.

Breisch performed well for the second consecutive week, throwing a mark of 54-8 in the shot put on her final attempt of the day to lead a 1-2-3 Husker finish. Senior Leann Boerema took the second spot with a throw of 51-0 ? and Jennifer Steiner finished third.

Ashley Selig led a 1-4 Nebraska sweep in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:24.61. She was followed by Danute Ceika, Sara Jane Baker and Dijana Kojic. In the men’s race, Danny Hill captured the title, beating a field of 50 competitors. He crossed the line in 1:10.77, while teammate Mark Harrison was just behind him in 1:11.01.

Na’Tassia Vice picked up her second win in as many weeks in the high jump, clearing 5-8 ? to take the title, not missing a height until the bar went to 5-10 ?.

The Huskers swept the seeded triple jump, with Ineta Radevica claiming the women’s title with a leap of 43-7 and Daniel Roper going 46-0 for the men’s victory.

Travis Baker had an outstanding performance in the men’s high jump, clearing a personal-best 7-0 ?, but falling to former Husker great Shane Lavy on misses.

NU swept the distance medley relays, with the women running a time of 11:49.63 and the men clocking a time of 10:08.26.

The Huskers travel to Columbia, Mo., Friday to compete in the Tiger Invitational for their final meet away from the Devaney Center until the Last Chance Qualifier on March 6.
