Boyer's Perfect Day Paces Reds to Win

Lincoln ? Jesse Boyer went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Red squad to a 13-6 win Thursday afternoon at Hawks Field.

The center fielder paced a 12-hit offense attack, as the Reds took a 2-to-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Boyer reached base all eight times he batted Thursday, as he also drew four of the Red team's 12 walks on the day.

Boyer and second baseman Colin Shockey did most of the damage Thursday afternoon against the Whites, as Shockey went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, two runs scored and three RBIs.

The Reds jumped to a quick 4-0 lead off White starter Quinton Robertson, as Alex Gordon, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three walks, belted a solo homer in the first before the Whites added three more runs on an RBI single by Boyer, and an RBI double by Keith before John Grose's grounder was misplayed for the third run of the frame.

The Whites began to mount a comeback, closing to within 5-3 in the fourth on a two-run single by Chad Steele, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, but the Reds quickly put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth, highlighted by RBIs singles by Boyer and Andy Lomax, who had two hits and scored three times.

Freshman Matt Pike was the beneficiary of the White's offensive outburst, taking the win with two innings of two-hit relief. Pike allowed two runs and struck out a batter in relief of starter Brad Furnish, who allowed two earned runs on five hits in four innings of work.

Robertson suffered the loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) on seven hits while walking four in four-plus innings of action.

Sophomore Darren Hoffart joined Steele as one of the Reds' offense stars, driving in three runs, while freshmen Braden Keith and David Moore added two hits in the loss.

The series continues Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., as sophomore Tim Schoeninger (4-2, 4.30 ERA) takes the hill for the Reds, while the Whites will turn to freshman left-hander Jon Klausing.
