The Huskers are 6-4 after playing in the Utah Tournament, Sept. 19-21. Nebraska fell to Washington twice over the weekend, 0-4 in the first game and 2-4 in the second. NU split with Utah, losing the first (0-4) and winning the second (8-6). The Huskers defeated Utah State, 6-1.
Washington 5, NU 1: Trisha Tannahill slammed a homer to right-center in the seventh inning to score the Huskers' only run of the game against Washington. NU's starting pitcher, Peaches James, struck out 10 Huskies in five innings of action to take the loss. Husker reliever Ashley DeBuhr would struck out three Washington batters in a row during the sixth. DeBuhr had four strikeouts during two innings of relief.
Utah 8, NU 6: The Huskers took three innings to score a run against Utah as Jessica Yoachim placed herself in scoring position in the third by advancing to first base by an error on the shortstop and then stealing second. Nicole Trimboli hit an RBI double to drive Yoachim home. The Huskers made some noise in the fifth by scoring three runs.
NU 8, Utah 3 : Saturday was the only winning day for the Huskers. Trimoboli hit a two-run homer against Utah in the second inning, putting the Huskers ahead, 6-0. In the seventh, Trimboli doubled to left center to drive in another run.
NU 6, Utah State 1: Summer Tobias pitched seven innings, striking out six Utah State batters and allowing only one run on one hit. Yoachim hit abunt single in the first inning. Sheena Lawrick followed with a two-run homer to put Nebraska on the board in the second game of the day against Utah State.
Utah 4, NU 2: Nebraska's starter DeBuhrwas relieved in the sixth inning by James. Washington's first batter, Aimee Minor, hit a three-run homer off James to put the Huskies ahead by two. Immediately after the Minor's home run, the game was ended due to time constraints.
The ballgame was tied at one until the fifth inning when Tannahill hit an RBI single to the left side, putting the Huskers in the lead, 2-1.
