Husker junior Seth Porter led the Nebraska men's golf team to a third-place finish after day one of the Branson Creek Invitational Saturday. Porter fired impressive rounds of 70 and 65 to vault into second place individually. With rounds of 276 and 284, the team total heading into the final round is 560.
Arkansas-Little Rock holds the first-place position with a total score of 557. Arkansas-Little Rock's Daniel Fox shot a 131 today to take the lead in the tournament.
Sophomore Mike Vanier shot in the 60's both rounds for a total of 136 and is presently tied for third place. In a tie for 11th-place is sophomore Blake Humbles, with a total of 141 after 36 holes. After carding a 148 for the day, sophomore Rob Arthur is currently in a tie for 35th-place. Sophomore Jim Troy posted a 156 to tie for 55th-place after day one.
The 10-team tournament will conclude Sunday with a final round of 18 holes.
